This article talks about how to hide lines behind dimension text in AutoCAD. This may be done to increase the legibility of the dimension text.

Create a mask behind the text from the Dimension style. Follow these steps:

On the Ribbon, go to Home tab > Expand Annotation drop-down > Dimension styles manager.
Select the Dimension style to change and click Modify.
Go to Text tab > Text appearance.
From the Fill color drop-down, choose Background.
Confirm all windows with OK.
