Issue:

How to control coordinates when exporting from Revit to an georeferenced IFC file?

Solution:

There are two methods to export an IFC file from Revit:

  • Revit built-in export.
  • IFC Exporter from the Autodesk App Store.

Is there a difference how coordinates are written to the IFC with the built-in function vs. the IFC Exporter plug-in on the App Store?
The App Store version has new functionality that allows the choice of which coordinate to be the export origin.

Does the IFC Exporter use the survey point origin as the IFC export origin in an X, Y, Z, direction?
That setting is the default. The new version on App Store allows for choices.

How to export model with "global" \ georeferenced coordinates to IFC?
Use Shared Coordinates as Coordinate Base:

Does the internal origin and its rotation relationship to the survey point get recorded in the IFCSite Local Placement (IfcLocalPlacement) information?
Yes.

How does this method relate to the IFCSITE elevation export setting?
This method shouldn't be used unless it is for compatibility with older programs.

Is there a choice when exporting the IFC file coordinates to the survey point, project basepoint?
Yes, in the app store version.
