Issue:

A Solidworks toolbox (COTS) Library of CAD Parts should be set up to create multiple parts simultaneously. How is it possible to create and manage Solidworks Toolbox parts in Upchain?

Solution:

Before using the Solidworks Toolbox parts in Solidworks CAD plug-in, the following preconditions are required:

  1. Go to Administration > Tenant Properties > Search field.

  2. Type enable.configuration.solidworks and import.library.parts to set the values.

  3. Set tenant properties enable.configurations.solidworks to off.

  4. Set tenant properties import.library.parts to on

Create the Solidworks Toolbox part

  1. Open the Upchain CAD Solidworks plug-in.

  2. See the Design Library on the left side.

  1. After adding the toolbox, select the standard rule:

  1. Select any part that you would like to add:

Item numbering rules

  1. Select one part and add an additional toolbox part to test the item numbering rule.

  2. Check in the item.

  3. Go to Upchain WEB UI to see what Upchain has created.

  4. Upchain has created two toolbox parts with different Item Numbers.

Note:

  • Toolbox parts are viewable in 3D viewer when they are within an assembly structure, single toolbox parts aren't 3D viewable.

  • Upchain stores only toolbox metadata into the system. This works with the default toolbox library and custom parts that are added into toolbox library.

  • Design library parts follow the normal workflow where system will upload file.

  • Names are controlled by Upchain and cannot be changed. The system will detect if there is a different toolbox configuration used in assembly and will create a new item for it.

  • Toolbox parts are recognized by Solidworks toolbox flag within a file when tenant property is turned off. The plug-in will block check-in of any structure which has a file with toolbox flag in it.
