Issue:

How then to install Autodesk Material Library for 2024 Autodesk Products since the libraries switched the file format?

Solution:

For Autodesk 2024 Products, the Autodesk Material Libraries have switched from MSI to ADIX file format.

However, the only Material Libraries for version 2024 that are still available for install separately are the Medium Resolution Materials.

To download and install the Autodesk Material Library Medium Resolution Image Library for use with Autodesk software, refer to the article "How to install the Autodesk Medium Resolution Materials Image Library?

There are several ways to install the Autodesk Material Library separately:

Install the Autodesk Material Library using another Autodesk Product:

Installing another Autodesk Product that does have the Autodesk Material Library, such as Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit and 3ds Max, will add the default Autodesk Material Library to the local system so that it can be used by other softwares where it is embedded into installation such as Autodesk InfraWorks.

Reinstall the Autodesk Material Library using a Product installer

If the default Material Library was previously installed on the local system but was removed, it is possible to reinstall it with the following steps:

  1. Place the install media for the product into the disc drive or locate the download of the product there if it was purchased electronically.
  2. In Windows Explorer or File Explorer, browse to the product installer, and open the following folders:
    • ..\Content\ADSKMaterials\<release>\CM
    • ..\Content\ADSKMaterials\<release>\ILB
  3. Run the Microsoft Installer (MSI) files located in the two folders and accept the default values.

Note: The Autodesk Material Library version must always match the year version of the Autodesk product(s) you are using.
