Issue:

How to update an Education Lab, Admin, or All-User Installation of Fusion.

Solution:

More instructions on lab installations can be found here (Note: Only an IT Admin or Educator role set for their Autodesk Education profile has access to the install package and access to see the instructions).

Updating a lab installation for Fusion

  1. Sign in to the Autodesk Education Community if an eligible account exists.
  2. From the “Get free software” page scroll down and click the “Get License” option for Fusion. A modal will open that includes instructions and the installer package needed to update the program.
  3. To update the Lab Installation of Fusion or lab installs, IT admins must download an updated installer:
    • MacOS:
      • Manual Installation:
        1. Download the self-contained OS X package. It is a system-standard pkg file and can be installed using the customary methods:
        2. Double-click on the package in finder.
        3. Use the "installer" command in the terminal (with the required sudo), or with software distribution and management systems such as Apple RDP or Munki.
          • Note: Instructions for third-party tools such as RDP or Munki are outside the scope of this document.
        4. This installation method puts a self-contained application bundle (Autodesk Fusion 360.app) in the system's /Applications folder.
          • Note: Executing the pkg file the customary way should allow it to function as either an initial install or an update install.
    • Windows:
      • Auto Download script (for Windows only):
        • To make sure your lab version is consistent with the latest version available on students’ personal devices, there is an option to set up Auto-Downloads.
        • Auto-Downloads for Fusion automate the recurring ~8 week update process.
        • Learn more about the benefits of Auto-Downloads for Windows users and the set-up instructions - see section 6 (page 14).
      • Manual Installation:
        1. Download the Fusion Lab Install File.
        2. Open the text file and copy the text in the file and save with the name “FusionLabInstall.bat” into the same folder/directory as your Fusion Lab Install File.
        3. Launch the *.bat file from Windows Explorer, a command shell, script, or software distribution or management system.

Note: Fusion is updated approximately every eight weeks and regular updates to lab installations are highly recommended to avoid file version issues between lab and single user installs. Sign up to be notified about when the update is available on this site.
