"Iy<Iz ! Rotate the section coordinate system by 90 defrees to have Iy>Iz?" while user defined section saving to database in Robot Structural Analysis.

Iy<Iz message

What does this information mean.

Solution:

By design sections in Robot Structural Analysis are saved with moment of inertia Iy bigger than Iz. When user creates section for which Iy (moment of inertia in respect to horizontal axis) is smaller than Iz (moment of inertia in respect to vertical axis). For example.

Section example
Program suggests saving it in database rotated by 90 degrees to follow up convention used in Robot Structural Analysis databases.
  • When Yes is chosen program rotates section by 90 degrees and save it to database with Iy greater than Iz.
Section saved with Iy bigger than Iz - following databases convention
  • When No is chosen program saves section as it is crated with Iy smaller than Iz.
Section saved with Iy smaller than Iz
