How is it possible to set RAL colors as RGB values in an Arnold material in 3ds Max

Issue:

How can RAL colors be transferred via RGB values into an Arnold material in 3ds Max:

In the color setup window of an Arnold Standard material, the RGB color values can't be written as values from 0-255 but only from 0-1

Environment:

  • 3ds Max 2018.4
  • 3ds Max 2019

Solution:

  • Use the color picker in the color setup window of the base color

  • with the color picker tool activated (by clicking on the icon), pick the color of a color field on any other application

  • the exact RGB color values of the picked color will be set automatically
  • Another procedure would be to copy the color values to a 2D application like Photoshop and create a texture of the color:

  • Save the texture as a .tif-file and apply the texture to the base color of an Arnold material in 3ds Max
