Issue:

When trying to attach a wall to a roof in Revit, the following error message appears and the elements are not joined:

Autodesk Revit

Error - cannot be ignored
"Can't keep wall and target joined"

User-added image

Causes:

Specific to the geometry of wall and target.

Solution:

Reset Profile

Select the wall, and in the contextual ribbon, select 'reset profile' to remove problematic wall geometry. Now the wall can attach to the roof, and any profile needs can be re-added after attaching.

Examine the shape of the wall

If resetting the profile doesn't clear the error, review the wall in a 3D view, and check for other items that could be joined or modify the shape of the wall. If found, remove them and try attaching them again.

Examine the shape of the roof

If wall geometry does not appear to be affected by other geometry, check the shape of the roof and for other geometry that may be intersecting/attached in the area that the wall would be connecting.
