Revit file name changes to folder name when saving

Issue:

If a project folder has a period "." in the name, when saving a Revit file, it changes the file name to the directory name in the save dialog.

This incident has been resolved in:

Revit 2022

To install updates, open the Autodesk desktop app and click My Updates. To install a new version of your Autodesk software, open the Autodesk desktop app, sign in, and click My Products. To use a web browser to install updates or a new version, sign in to Autodesk Account. (Your access to new versions or updates depends on your Autodesk software entitlements.)

Workaround:

Two possible workarounds:
  • Don't use '.' (periods) in folder names. Change such existing folder names to eliminate the periods.
  • In the Save or Save As Dialog in Revit, use "Add Current Folder to Places" and select the folder from that shortcut
