Issue:

When working with segmented Round Bends in Fabrication CAMduct (pattern CID 61), and developing them as "Single Segments", the shape of the parts is not optimal for nesting.
The resulting nest sheet includes unnecessary scrap.
Sometimes, using a single development part for all segments is not suitable for the cutting machine which supports closed profiles only.

Causes:

When developing the Bend as Single Segments, the Seam is applied on the same side for all segments, rather than alternated like when developing one single part for all segments.

Solution:

To avoid the issue, do one of the following:

  • Set the Seam Position different from 0 to make the segments asymmetrical:
  1. While in Takeoff, click the "Options" tab.
  2. Set "Seam Position" to a value different from 0, for example 90:

  1. Click "Develop" to check the segments shape, and if necessary change the "Seam Position" value according to your needs.
The segments have an asymmetrical shape, and once nested leave less remnants.

  • To obtain the same segment shape of a Bend developed in one single part, and if the job contains several Bends of the same size, do the following:
  1. Set "Seam Position" to 0 for half of the Bends.
  2. Set "Seam Position" to 180 for the other half.
  3. When assembling the Bends, combine the segments with Seam Position at 0 with the other segments with Seam Position at 180.

  • When the cutting machine doesn't support the cut of open profiles, but supports open cuts within a closed profile, evaluate the use of pattern CID 83 "Segment Bend Stitch":
  1. While in Takeoff, click the "Options" tab.
  2. Set "Stitch Gap" to the length value of the Stitch, for example 5 mm.
  3. Set "Number of Stitches" greater than 0, for example 2:
