"Some dimensions were not copied because they could not find a reference" when copying annotations from linked file in Revit

Issue:

  • When attempting to copy annotations from a linked file to the Revit host view using the option 'Paste to the Same Place' the following message appears:

"Some dimensions were not copied because they could not find a reference."

  • The annotations cannot be copied.

Causes:

There is an attempt to copy annotations without the host. 

Solution:

  • Copying only annotations from linked files to the host model is not possible, as the elements need to have their host geometry in the same file.
  • To copy the annotation to the host file, copying the annotation-host elements will be also necessary.
