Issue:

In Rocky Linux 8.5, special left "Super Left" key switches apps (Gnome "Activities") instead of opening a contextual menu in Flame.

Environment:

Rocky Linux 8.5

Causes:

There are two causes dependent one from the other:
  • "Super Left" key is mapped in Gnome desktop as default to "Activities"
  • Flame start is overriding Gnome settings.

Solution:

There are two possible work-arounds for fixing the issue:
  1. Permanent solution steps:

    1. Open "Tweaks" App from the search bar in Gnome desktop.
    2. Go to "Keyboard and Mouse".
    3. Change "Overview Shortcut" to "Right Super".
Gnome Keyboard and Mouse settings
  1. Go to "Windows" menu.
  2. Set "Window Action Key" to "Disabled".
Gnome Windows settings
  1. Edit the file, modifying the indicated lines:
/opt/Autodesk/<.flamefamily_2023.0.1>/bin/res/gnomeEnv_centos8/gnomesetting.py
Line 114
From:
["org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings","switch-applications-backward","as",["<Shift><Super>Tab","<Shift><Alt>Tab"]],

To:
["org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings","switch-applications-backward","as",["<Shift><Alt>Tab"]],

Line 115
From:
["org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings","switch-applications","as",["<Super>Tab","<Alt>Tab"]],

To:
["org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings","switch-applications","as",["<Alt>Tab"]],

Line 170
From:
["org.gnome.mutter","overlay-key","s","Super_L"],

To:
["org.gnome.mutter","overlay-key","s","Super_R"],

Check that "Super Left" key is working properly inside Flame application.
Note: Check "Flame <click>" (Context menu from clip) and "Flame + e" (export clip). As some shortcuts could not fail.

  1. Temporal solution steps:

    1. Start Flame.
    2. Follow the previous work-around step 3 (Change "Overview Shortcut" to "Right Super") when Flame is already started.
