How do I re-import the CimCore WinRDS connection protocol into PowerInspect

Autodesk Support

Oct 5, 2016

PowerInspect currently loads the protocol (CimCore WinRDS) from the device (Hexagon Metrology RDS Inspection Arm) when connected . For this particular protocol the data is held in the device anyway, but a file is also created and located on the users PC which also holds a cache to be used when not connected to the device.

Should an instance occur where the current cached protocol located on the users PC become corrupted for whatever reason, PowerInspect may crash continuously upon startup.

Problem:

The following crash images highlight this:

Its important that before any changes are made to a system, the following activities should be carried out as best practice:

  1. Check when the last windows update was performed - this can be accessed by navigating to the Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features/Installed Updates
  2. Check any licenses purchased are up-to-date and correct and that the (where applicable) the correct dongle is being used.
  3. Re-install PowerInspect version
  4. Re-start the PC
  5. Gather all *.dmp files created as a result of the PowerInspect crashes. It can be located by :
    1. Click Start/Run/type:"%TMP%"
    2. Locate the folder : PowerInspect_MiniDump
    3. Save the most recent *.dmp files
  6. Navigate to the registry paths below for the relevant version of PowerInspect and delete the PowerInspect folder - This can be located by clicking the Start/Run/type:"regdit" or Start/type:"regdit"

For PowerInspect 2016:

  1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/DELCAM/POWERINSPECT
  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/DELCAM/POWERINSPECT

For PowerInspect 2017:

  1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/AUTODESK/POWERINSPECT
  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/AUTODESK/POWERINSPECT

To solve:

For PowerInspect 2016:

  1. Make sure the hardware is connected to the PC and turned on
  2. Move the *.prd file onto the desktop for safe keeping. It can be located in "C:\ProgramData\Delcam\CMMDriver16.1.0\CMM1\ProtocolStorage\CimCore WinRDS\ProbeDatabase.prd"
  3. Close all folders and files.
  4. Run PowerInspect

For PowerInspect 2017:

  1. Make sure the hardware is connected tot he PC and turned on
  2. Move the *.prd file onto the desktop for safe keeping. It can be located in "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CMMDriver17.1.0\CMM1\ProtocolStorage\CimCore WinRED\ProbeDatabase.prd"
  3. Close all folders and files
  4. Run PowerInspect
