The new Unwrap tool in Autodesk Inventor 2020 solves several challenges that users often face when having to deal with geometry which can’t be unfolded using the flat pattern within sheet metal. This article covers typical examples where Unwrap tool can save time and eliminating tedious workarounds.

Sheet metal parts

Typical use cases include sheet metal geometry when nonlinear bends or punches are utilized. Prior to Inventor 2020, users had to either spend some time modifying geometry to help Inventor generate a flat pattern or use third party tools to get the unfolded shape. Within Inventor 2020 this task can be achieved with Unwrap tool, saving time and eliminating extra work.
