Arnold Workflow 4 is a little more practical example of combining a module like MASH in Maya with several Arnold StandIns to create a look that is fairly realistic and can easily be expanded to do many similar kinds of things. Before getting into MASH I will have to set up my tree geometries in a way that will increase the randomness as well as the realism. On top of using several different looking pine trees I am using a Color Jitter utility to randomize color on a per object and per face basis.
The last thing featured in this demo shows the reason to use a combination of MASH with Arnold StandIns to get to a point where both the interactivity and the render performance are optimal to make creative decisions. Here are some renders to give yuo an idea of the end result.
