It's time to sunset a few InfraWorks services. These sunsets reflect a variety of factors, including changing customer usage trends and preparing for security audits. Here are the details.
Who is affected?
The services to be retired only affect InfraWorks 2017.2 and earlier versions. If you're using version 2017.3 or later (including the latest Rolling Sandbox build), you have nothing to worry about - these service changes won't impact your software.
Not sure which version you have? All you need is one minute to confirm the version you're using - here's how.
Which services will be retired?
• Create Civil 3D drawings from InfraWorks models.
• Some cloud-based data translation.
What's changing?
• Create Civil 3D Drawings from InfraWorks models. In early versions of InfraWorks this was a cloud service that automated the process of generating drawings from terrain and design roads modeled in InfraWorks. Going forward, you'll want use the InfraWorks toolbar in Civil 3D to open an InfraWorks model or import IMX files into your drawing. From there you can create sheets in Civil 3D with that data.
• Cloud-based data translation. To successfully import data formats like City GML, Civil 3D DWG, DGN, IFC, Revit, SketchUp, or 3D DWG data, you’ll need to install some additional software.
CityGML
Use CityGML Importer for InfraWorks, a free tool that will convert data into IMX, which can be imported into InfraWorks.
Civil 3D drawings
If Civil 3D and InfraWorks are installed on the same computer, then you're all set to bring Civil 3D Drawings into InfraWorks via the Data Sources panel. For this, make sure the same versions of each (like Civil 3D 2017 and InfraWorks 2017, or Civil 3D 2018 and InfraWorks 2018) are installed together on your computer.
Other formats: DGN, IFC, Revit, SketchUp, and 3D DWG data
Install Navisworks Manage or Simulate along with InfraWorks on the same computer to continue importing these data formats. Make sure the same versions (2017, 2018) are installed.
When will these services be retired?
They will be turned off on January 3, 2018. If you try to use them after that, the commands will appear to hang, and eventually time out.
