What:

Design a pond using different grading criteria. Analyze earthwork and dynamically updated stored water volumes for different water levels.

Who:

Engineering service providers, designers, and project engineers.

How:

Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to design a pond, and use dynamic water level to analyze stored water volume.

  1. Create grading criteria that you will use for pond design.
  2. Use the pond outline and existing terrain to design the pond.
  3. Use Grading Creation Tools to create detailed pond design

  1.  To create the water level, create a polyline around the pond. Then convert the polyline to a feature line, and assign the required water level to the entire feature line.
  2.  To calculate earthwork volumes from the design grading group, use Grading Volumes Tools on the Analyze tab.
  3.  Calculate stored water volume by using the Volumes Dashboard on the Analyze tab.
  4.  Adjust the water level by raising or lowering the feature line within the Elevation Editor.

Why:

Although water storage ponds are in many infrastructure designs, they are also part of many urban designs, golf-course designs, and other projects. Detailed design and accurate volumetric calculation of any designed shape is crucial to the design process.

What next?

You can use the Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis tool to analyze inlet and outlet rim elevations and create emergency spillways or weir elevations based on hydrology studies.
