Autodesk Moldflow Insight subscriptions include the ability to solve complex simulations on secure AWS cloud servers through the use of Autodesk Cloud Credits. This enables the option of an unlimited number of runs, with the only limitation being the number of Cloud Credits owned. Autodesk CFD subscribers, please read the December 2020 update at the bottom of this article for details regarding Cloud solving for CFD simulations.
When a user has the cloud solving entitlement (assigned by their software manager through Autodesk Account), they can log in through the product’s user interface to automatically initiate the cloud solving option. Although a license is not consumed during cloud solving, an active subscription to Moldflow Insight is required, as a check is made upon launching cloud solves to verify the license before the analysis launches. This does not impact local solves already consuming the license.
For Moldflow Insight, the number of Cloud Credits required to run an analysis is dependent upon the type and complexity of the analysis. When launching a cloud simulation, a prompt will appear to verify the number of credits required to run that simulation. The user can then identify whether they’d like to proceed with spending that number of Cloud Credits or cancel to re-evaluate solving options. The costs of simulation jobs currently running on the cloud is detailed within the Simulation Compute Manager.
The process of cloud solving for Moldflow Insight involves the Simulation Compute Manager compressing and encrypting the model, then transferring it to the Autodesk secure storage service. When the job is executed, results are placed in the Autodesk secure storage service. As the job progresses, the Simulation Compute Manager transfers the results and simulation progress information to the local workstation as they become available. When the job finishes, the Simulation Compute Manager transfers the final results to the local workstation for the user to review and visualize, to then continue with the design process. If for any reason a job is cancelled or fails, the job’s cloud credits are refunded to the user.
Account managers can review their cloud credit report through Autodesk Accounts to monitor usage, manage users, and purchase additional cloud credits.

December 8, 2020 – CFD Cloud Solve Update:
Autodesk CFD users will notice the Cloud solve option that has been available up through the 2019 releases of Autodesk CFD is no longer available within the 2021.0 release. Although initially an exciting option for some users, the difficult decision has been made to disable this feature in Autodesk CFD 2021.0. Users will still be able to run remote simulations and use scalable solving through the use of their own servers/clusters, however they will not be able to access Autodesk’s Cloud solver when launching the analysis in CFD Premium 2021.0 or CFD Ultimate 2021.0.
