Find certified and recommended graphics hardware and drivers at Certified Graphics Hardware.
You can find certification results for prior releases of Autodesk® Mudbox™ software at the Mudbox system requirements page.
The following describes important notes related to the graphics hardware certifications for the Autodesk Mudbox 2012 product releases:
Mudbox 2012 graphics certification testing was done using Mac OS® X v.10.6.6 unless otherwise specified. Autodesk recommends that you use the same operating system version that was tested with the graphics hardware. A newer version does not always provide the best support.
To find out what version of Mac OS X is installed on your system, select "About This Mac" in the Apple menu. The general operating system version number is just below the logo; for example: Version 10.5.8.
To find the build number for that version, click Version. The version number will display the build number; for example, build 9L30. (You may need to refer to the Apple Support site to identify your system.)
Note: Occasionally, Apple releases slightly different versions that have the same version number, but display different build numbers. These slightly different versions may behave differently. You may need to determine the build number in order to accurately identify the OS version.
At this time, Autodesk does not conduct graphics certification testing on computers with integrated Intel® GMA 950 or GMA x3100 or Integrated HD graphics hardware for Mudbox. As a result, these integrated graphics systems are not Recommended or Certified.
At this time, Autodesk conducts graphics certification testing only with the official Apple default drivers that are included with the particular version of the Mac OS (for example: 10.6.6). Drivers acquired by any other means, such as directly from a graphics vendor, have not been tested and therefore are not Recommended or Certified.
Note: For NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 and GeForce® 285GTX cards, we had to use the manufacturer’s driver until the release of the official driver by Apple with the 10.6.4 Graphic Update.
To verify the video driver version installed on your Mac OS X system, open a Finder window and navigate to /System/Library/Extensions/(vendor extension file). With this file selected, Ctrl-click to select Get Info to view the version information.
Autodesk Mudbox 2012 graphics certification testing was performed using the following Fedora® Core and Red Hat® versions:
14 – 64bit OS | 5.5 – 64bit OS |
Kernel Version | |
2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64 | |
Xorg Version | |
1.9.4-1.fc14.x86_64 | |
Glibc Version | |
2.13-1.x86_64 |
Fedora 14 ships with the "Nouveau" driver enabled by default. When this driver is loaded, the NVIDIA driver is prevented from loading. Consult your distributor’s documentation on how to disable the Nouveau driver before you install the NVIDIA driver.
The following sections describe important notes related to the Linux® operating systems for Autodesk Mudbox 2012 for Linux.
Compiler Requirements
Mudbox 2012 was compiled using gcc 4.1.2, on a RHEL 5 system. gcc 4.1.2 source code is available from http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.0/.
The options to build the gcc 4.1.2. compiler used for Mudbox are: gcc412 –v
Target: x86_64-redhat-linux
Configured with: ../configure --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --enable-shared --enable-threads=posix --enable-checking=release --with-system-zlib --enable-__cxa_atexit --disable-libunwind-exceptions --enable-languages=c,c++,objc,obj-c++,java,fortran,ada --enable-java-awt=gtk --disable-dssi --enable-plugin --with-java-home=/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-gcj-1.5.0.0/jre --enable-libgcj-multifile --enable-java-maintainer-mode --with-ecj-jar=/usr/share/java/eclipse-ecj.jar --with-cpu=generic --host=x86_64-redhat-linux Thread model: posix gcc version 4.1.2 20070925 (Red Hat 4.1.2-33)
Plug-in developers should use the same configuration.
The Linux operating system is extremely flexible when it comes to precise versioning of different components, drivers, and libraries. Mudbox may behave differently on superficially similar systems and Autodesk cannot always explain or determine the cause of a problem.
Internally at Autodesk we have stabilized using certain Linux configurations. To see a list of these configurations, visit the Find Graphics Hardware page and select Autodesk Mudbox in the “Your Products” field. Then use the “Your Operating System” dropdown to view the list of Linux configurations.
This list is provided to help our customers, but we make no guarantees as to the reliability, stability, or availability of these components. This is not a complete list of Linux configurations choices. This list includes important components that significantly affect the Mudbox software.
We do not recommend saving data directly from Autodesk Mudbox to NFS or other remote mounted file systems. We strongly recommend that you save the files locally and then copy the data to the mounted storage system.
Autodesk Mudbox is not linked to be compatible with SELinux. If SELinux does not need to be enabled, it is recommended not to enable it. The SELinux requirement may be addressed via two mechanisms after Mudbox has been installed.
If you do not wish to use SELinux enforcement, disable it by running the `setenforce 0` command before starting X, or by adding selinux=0 to the end of the kernel line in /etc/grub.conf or change /etc/selinux/config and reboot. You can change the security context of the Mudbox libraries with the chcon command. This has not been tested
KDE klipper is known to have focusing issues with some applications, which may contribute to application instability. We recommend removing the applet from the panel and editing the config file, (~/.kde/share/config/klipperrcv) to disable KDE klipper. [$Version] update_info=klipperrc.upd:25082001,klipperrc.upd:kde3.1 ral]
AutoStart=false
The Autodesk Mudbox choice of OpenGL® visuals is RGBA 8/8/8/8 double buffer with depth buffer of 24 where applicable. Visuals available from the XServer can be found using the command glxinfo.
If Autodesk Mudbox cannot obtain its preferred visual, it will use a lower value as a fall-back if possible. If this happens, a warning will be issued.
Set up the XServer so uses direct rendering to get as many visuals as possible. Use a depth setting of 24 to enable 8 bits per component.
Mudbox 2012 graphics certification testing was done using Gnome® 2.16.0 for RedHat 5.5 and Gnome 2.32.0 on Fedora Core 14. Other window managers are likely to work acceptably, but because they have not been tested they cannot be listed as Recommended or Certified.
If you are experiencing display issues not described in this FAQ, you can visit the Mudbox knowledge base.
