RV and RVIO perpetual licenses and maintenance end of sale: frequently asked questions

Overview

UPDATE On January 18, 2023 Autodesk launched Open RV, an open source version of RV available from the Academy Software Foundation (ASWF) GitHub repository. You may also consider Open RV as an additional option. For more information about Open RV, please read our FAQs.

Starting August 27, 2021, standalone perpetual licenses of Autodesk RV and RVIO software will no longer be available for purchase. However, you can continue to gain access to RV as part of an Autodesk ShotGrid subscription.

 

1. What changes are being made to RV and RVIO offering and when?

As of August 27, 2021, you will no longer be able to purchase new perpetual licenses nor renew your existing maintenance plans.

 

2. Is Autodesk still invested in RV?

Yes. RV remains an important piece of Autodesk's media review ecosystem—providing performant media playback across all three desktop platforms. By leveraging RV's connection to ShotGrid, users will continue to benefit from seeing valuable contextual information surfaced into their reviews and ensure they deliver the best results.

 

3. How will these changes affect me?

If you have an active maintenance plans you will continue to have access to technical support and product updates through the end of your contract term.

If you currently access RV as part of your ShotGrid subscription, you will not be impacted by these changes and continue to receive access to technical support and product updates. 

You can continue to download the latest version of RV and RVIO at www.shotgridsoftware.com/rv/download if you have an active maintenance contract or ShotGrid subscription.

 

4. What are my options if I still want to access RV after August 27, 2021?

You can purchase additional RV perpetual licenses and new maintenance plans until August 27, 2021. If you have an existing maintenance plan you may also be eligible to renew under your current contract terms. RV perpetual licenses can be used in perpetuity, but users will only have access to technical support and product updates if they have an active maintenance plan. You can also subscribe to ShotGrid and gain access to RV.

 

5. What happens if my RV or RVIO maintenance plan expires?

You can continue to use your RV or RVIO perpetual licenses but will no longer have access to technical support or any product updates after your maintenance plan expires.

 

6. What ShotGrid subscription term options are available?

ShotGrid offers monthly, annual, and multi-year subscriptions. Pricing and subscription term options can be found here. You can also contact your Autodesk sales representative or Autodesk Authorized Reseller for more information. 

Note, RVIO is not available as part of a ShotGrid subscription.

 

7. What if I already have a ShotGrid subscription?

If you are currently subscribed to ShotGrid, you will not experience any changes or interrupted access to RV or technical support with this change.

 

8. Will I still have access to technical support?

If you have an active RV or RVIO maintenance plan, you will continue to have access to technical support and product updates until the end of your contract term.

 

9. How is Technical Support Changing?

As of October 1, 2021, the way you contact Technical Support will change.

If you have an active ShotGrid subscription you will navigate to https://knowledge.autodesk.com to access support via your Autodesk account. For additional details on how to create a support case, please visit AKN.

If you are not subscribed to ShotGrid, but have an active maintenance plan, you can submit your technical support requests via email to RVsupport@autodesk.com through the end of your maintenance contract term.
