Session-level product usage reporting (beta version)

Autodesk Support

May 30, 2023

Session-level product usage reporting allows Premium admins to see data for version, device, start date, duration in hours, and duration in seconds. With this information, Premium admins can understand how and when individuals use Autodesk software to assess engagement and usage. Admins with a Premium plan can monitor usage reports at a session level for the products and versions listed below.

Important: Please note that usage reporting at the session level is currently a beta feature only available via the existing usage report export.

User reporting at the session level is provided in beta version on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Autodesk makes no commitments or warranties to this beta version’s functionality, usability, or suitability. Autodesk may choose not to convert any beta version into a product offering. Beta versions may contain code that is not fully tested. Your usage of any beta version is at your own risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is session data defined?

A: Session usage refers to user active time, that is, when the end user is actively engaging with the product.

Q: How often is the session-level reporting data updated?

A: Session data is updated daily and may take up to 48 hours to appear in the export.

Q: Why aren't all of my products and users shown in session reporting?

A: Session-level reporting is available for certain desktop products of versions 2023 or higher. See the full list below. If a user is not operating on an eligible version, their data will not be included in the session reporting export. Note that Cloud product usage data is not included in session-level reporting.

Q: If our company has a mix of both Standard and Premium plan teams, will we see session-level data for the Standard teams?

A: No. The session-level export file contains usage data only for Premium plan teams.

Q: What happens if I upgrade from Standard to Premium? Will I see session data for the time when the team was Standard?

A: Yes. For eligible products and versions with data captured after March 1, 2023, the session data will be shown in the export.

Q: How far back in time is session data captured?

A: Session data can be viewed back to March 1, 2023.

Q: Why does the export file contain two duration measures: duration_hours and duration_seconds?

A: Duration_seconds is the raw data transmitted to Autodesk, while duration_hours is a calculation for convenience based on the raw data.

We share both metrics because for very short sessions duration_hours may be rounded to 0, while duration_seconds may show 8 seconds, for example.
