Dynamo for Civil 3D

A clash is the result of two elements taking up the same space in a design and clashes can be time consuming and costly to put right if discovered on the construction site. Therefore, clash avoidance is a key part of the design and construction process and that is why clash detection is most often documented as a standard procedure in a BIM Execution Plan.

Navisworks does a great job when it comes to clash detection: You can run soft clash tests (when one planning element violates the geometric tolerances for other planning components) and hard clash tests (where two components intersect or pass through each other). You can also save search sets to reuse in projects and work with clash templates to run various clash tests at once. And: You can even detect workflow clashes e.g. mismatches in the scheduling and delivery of the materials.

Civil 3D also has a built-in clash detection for soft and hard clashes between gravity pipe networks. But. what if you want to perform a clash detection between other disciplines and other AutoCAD or Civil 3D Objects whilst modeling? You can use Dynamo for Civil for detecting soft and hard clash whilst modeling with Civil 3D as shown in the video below (The script is added to this AKN article).
