Scaling Sustainability through Collaboration
When LCA experts work with developers, we can integrate their expertise into digital tools
There are thousands of sustainability experts that are experienced with lifecycle assessment (LCA) that can help you assess the carbon footprint of a particular product building design. Unfortunately, there are millions of products and buildings that are created every year—far too many to assess manually. That’s why we need to go beyond the “craftsman” approach to lifecycle assessment and scale it using digital technology, according to Caspar Honée of PRé Sustainability. To do that, we need sustainability experts to collaborate with programmers and technologists to create digital services that can be used by any designer, engineer, or owner. If we can make carbon impact as simple and accessible as a price tag, we can empower creators to make informed sustainability decisions. Honée shares how PRé’s new partnership with Autodesk has enabled them to embed their LCA assessment tools directly into Fusion 360, so anyone using Fusion can analyze their designs for carbon footprint, water impact, and land use.
