Design and construction data should be viewed as a valuable product—not a byproduct

Did you know that contractors lost a staggering $1.8 trillion globally in 2020 due to bad data? Maribeth Achterberg, Chief Information & Technology Officer at the Boldt Group, emphasizes the critical importance of data literacy in the AECO industry. Boldt is pioneering innovations in modular construction and component manufacturing by fostering a data-centric approach. Achterberg advocates for adopting manufacturing principles in construction, such as ISO 10303 standards, to enhance efficiency and quality. By viewing data as a valuable product, not just a byproduct, and standardizing information across processes, the industry can significantly improve project outcomes and speed to market.
