Automating workflows and processes increases productivity, reduces errors, and saves costs.  Now you can automate your Inventor processes in the cloud – to achieve collaboration and automation at scale. In this class we will present five examples of what can be done with Forge and the Design Automation API for Inventor. These will be running examples with reference code available in github. The purpose of this class is to stimulate your creativity by demonstrating  what can be done - and also to provide sample code as a springboard to accelerate your own automation development. The five examples will be: A web based configurator, automating BOM pricing and supply by leveraging the design and back end systems, generating an assembly and drawings from iLogic rules, building product content by connecting Design Automation API for Inventor to Design Automation API for Revit and setting up a Design Checker for enforcing company standards.

In this class, you’ll learn how Dynamo can support design automation and computational modeling workflows for structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures. You’ll learn about the appropriate packages to perform automation in your own daily workflows, and you’ll receive a set of teaching examples.

Automation in Civil Engineering, especially in the BIM space, is becoming a major revolutionary step in the new digital era. What was a job of core software developers is getting mainstream every day with easier programming languages (Visual & Text) and more and more engineers finding ways to achieve complex results using automation. Automation thinking for Civil Engineers is a basic level discussion on how to think in Automation terms. This topic covers how we can spot opportunities, how we, designers can ideate and what it takes to become an Automator. It talks about the questions designers should ask themselves, how to structure your automations, how to validate its scalability among other topics.

Resource constraints, cost concerns, and a desire to better leverage emerging AI and ML technologies have caused design teams in the water industry to adopt automation tools to accelerate their work. These tools allow designers to leverage standardized processes and design content to efficiently generate high quality documentation with 3D visualization, while still providing a customized solution to meet a client’s specific needs. These tools can allow multiple designs using alternative treatment technologies to be efficiently generated and evaluated as part of design optimization efforts. This presentation includes a discussion of current trends in design automation, with a focus on water and wastewater treatment facilities. This includes the use of bots, BIM/CAD automations, and specialized rules-based design automation tools. A case study of a project using the Transcend rules-based automation package will be discussed to show the value that can be achieved with these tools.

In a world where automation is all around us, a script or a tool is often the go-to solution for design teams confronted with problems daily. But should it be? In this session, we will discuss the process and challenges of implementing automation in your Revit workflows and share examples of some of our own development efforts.

This class will discuss the various techniques for automating 3ds Max software. We’ll first cover techniques to build automated routines to drive complex tasks within 3ds Max. 3ds Max includes a local tool called 3dsmaxbatch that enables local automation of complex tasks. This functionality is also available in the cloud under the Forge Design Automation API. We’ll discuss MAXScript, Python, C++, and .NET approaches to automation, and how to connect your routines to the web to drive configurable automation.

Its not just AutoCAD anymore - the Design Automation API now includes Revit and Inventor. This class presents an introduction to newly expanded Forge Design Automation API. Members of the Revit, AutoCAD and Inventor Design Automation teams will discuss the general API architecture, specific implementation details and examples for automating the three products separately and in concert. (Joint AU/Forge DevCon class).

With the release of Design Automation for Inventor on Forge, it's possible to leverage the scale of the Forge platform not only saving money but also removing the bottleneck of processing automated workflows. In this instructional demo, you will learn the basic techniques of developing the logic required to automate 2D drawings with iLogic and the Inventor API. From creating views, adding dimensions and balloons, and working with sketched symbols and even parts lists, this demo will shed an abundant amount of light on how to develop your drawing automation, as well as what to avoid to ensure a robust and stable automation project.

Forge is a set of web services provided by Autodesk. The Design Automation API is one of its components that added support for Inventor software roughly a year ago. In this class, we will provide an introduction to the Design Automation API and how you can use it to automate Inventor processes. We’ll show how you can estimate and optimize the costs of using this service, and the various ways you can run and speed up processes on the Design Automation service. We will also cover some of the specific tips the speaker learned while helping customers with specific workflows, for example, how to get modeling error details from Inventor, how to obtain a list of supported files types, and other useful ideas. We will demonstrate the coding ideas using the .NET Core development environment.
