In this class, we will learn simple and effective strategies for building parametric, stable assemblies that can easily be updated. We will discuss best practice for structuring assemblies and how to scale when working with large assemblies. We will learn how to use relationships effectively, and when to use the alternatives. We will learn how to prepare a design for “top down” parametric change, and how we can trigger changes using iLogic. Finally, we will learn how to document our design intent to ensure that our colleagues can work with our assemblies as effectively as we can.

You may wonder: “How do I use Inventor software properly?” Of course—there is no “right” way to use Inventor. It’s a tool just like any other. We can use it for lots of different tasks, and in lots of different ways—all of them correct. Inventor lets us build parametric models—models that can easily change by adjusting the value of a parameter. This is awesome for building models that need to be adjusted in a predictable fashion. The problem with parametric modeling is that we must model in four dimensions. We model in the usual three dimensions, and we must also consider time, or the way our model might change over time. This change over time is often referred to as “design intent.” Building a model that can change in a predictable fashion takes a little thought and some planning. Reliable modeling requires a plan.

In this class, we’ll explore the new Export Revit Project (RVT file) functionality in Inventor 2022 software. We'll explore why BIM (Building Information Modeling) is important to building product manufacturers, custom fabricators, and industrial facility owners, and level set on Inventor software's existing BIM interoperability tools. We'll then work our way through a five-part workflow example that includes 1) importing Revit data with AnyCAD for Inventor for Revit projects (RVT file); 2) simplifying the manufacturing design model in Inventor, “bottom up” (with simplify) and “top down” using Model States (also new in Inventor 2022); 3) exporting the Inventor model as a Revit project (RVT file); 4) linking the Inventor model into Revit for review and collaboration; and 5) updating the Inventor model, and updating the export to see the design update in Revit. We'll provide data set and written and video recorded instructions, and there’ll be a live session of questions and answers.

This lab will provide an opportunity for customers to get hands on with the new “Revit AnyCAD” functionality in Inventor 2021 software. We will cover some of the theory of why BIM (Building Information Modeling) is important to building product manufacturers and custom fabricators, and level set on our existing BIM exchange tools. We will then work our way through a four-part example use case for referencing Revit data. We will cover some basic cleanup of the model in Revit software, test what we can do with the data in Inventor, marvel as changes made to the Revit model update inside of Inventor, and round-trip the Inventor model back into Revit.
