In this class, we'll discuss the simpler approaches to generating amazing images, videos, and even a little virtual reality-with Inventor Studio software and Navisworks software.

This class will discuss Jacobs Engineering Group’s implementation of AutoCAD Civil 3D software, which started a 3-year journey in preparation for the U.K. Building Information Modeling (BIM) mandate. We will discuss how Jacobs determined which project to use as a pilot, and identification of candidate projects for the early adopter schemes proposed for its U.K. Highways BIM implementation plan. We will talk through the issues faced and resolutions implemented, including the need to create standard subassemblies to enable the company to have greater control over models when compared to the out-of-the-box subassemblies, and the need to re-create them due to construction setting-out issues. The class will conclude with a discussion of the implementation of ProjectWise software on Jacobs’ BIM projects, developments with Bentley to improve the AutoCAD Civil 3D software integration to enable the industry to continue using AutoCAD Civil 3D software effectively, and the use of third-party software that is integrated into AutoCAD Civil 3D software to enable Jacobs to deliver all aspects of 3D. This class describes several Building Information Modeling (BIM) challenges that Nikken Sekkei, the largest Japanese design firm, and Takenaka Corporation, one of the top five contractor, design-build companies, faced during their collaboration on a 1,000,000-square-foot BIM hospital project. The class covers three major challenges in the BIM implementation and adoption process between the two companies: how to incorporate the new concept of hospital design with a BIM approach that supports design coordination of the "shell and core" of the hospital plan to reduce RFIs; how to manage all of the designers and drafters who are beginning Autodesk® Revit® software users (no BIM champions) to produce construction documents from design development phase; and how to manage design review communications with the client using visualization technology. In this presentation, we will discuss a case study of an ongoing $1.7 billion convention center project and see how a virtual design and construction (VDC)-heavy workflow combined with a design-assist process focused on collaboration in the preconstruction phase helped identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design issues. We will talk about the co-location process used on the project and the value and benefits it provided all project stakeholders.

Case study using Autodesk Revit software to establish a multidisciplinary coordinating model using Infrastructure Design Suite software, and the successful workflow of how to best interact between the different software systems. Construction and engineering professionals get hands-on training on how to transition from a LOD 300 to LOD 350 model for enhanced construction utilization. This lab and panel discussion demonstrates how to take full advantage of Revit Structure software models using parts and assembly tools, rebar, parameter strategies, and advanced families to extend BIM into construction using Navisworks® Manage software to schedule, estimate, and use the Revit Structure model for shop drawings. We discuss the value of the engineering model and potential for contractors to use it in planning, sequencing, animation, location, detailed shop drawings, fabrication, and estimation. In this class, we will share our experience with the rollout and increased adoption of BIM 360 Docs software within Arcadis globally. The Pilot to Enterprise program is a successful approach to developing a well-structured, flexible project foundation for all project type rollouts within BIM 360 Docs. These are Arcadis's "lighthouse" projects, and Autodesk will support Arcadis on project execution. The intention is to glean the lessons learned for a global implementation across Arcadis, and drive toward a common data environment. The Autodesk Train the Trainer program is aimed at identifying and training regional BIM 360 Docs Implementation Champions and other key users based on the guidance of the Arcadis program managers. Together with the strategy "From 12 to Many," it will touch virtually every component of our collaborative process with input and support from Autodesk Implementation Consultants in The Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific.
