The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) of Victoria, Australia, is delivering a major digital transformation program to manage the transport infrastructure of a state where 6+ million people live. With more than $100 billion in transport infrastructure projects in development through 180+ major projects and with 20,000+ people in jobs, the DTP needed to implement digital engineering standards, processes, and technologies to effectively and securely manage the asset lifecycle from planning to operation and maintenance. This program aims to enhance efficiency through better collaboration and flow of information throughout the project lifecycle. The DTP will present its current digital engineering and digital asset information management initiatives. The session will focus on the road map for streamlining building information modeling (BIM) standards, workflows, and technologies associated with the digital delivery process, and how Autodesk, Esri, and IBM Maximo helped the department better align its processes with technology.

Sewer pipelines are buried and out of sight. They are underinvested in and rapidly deteriorating. There are millions of miles of sewer pipelines that require monitoring to determine the condition and performance of this critical infrastructure. The principal method that utilities use involves closed-circuit television (CCTV) mounted video cameras on crawler units. Video and photographs of the insides of pipes are interpreted by engineers trained in the art of sewer pipeline defect recognition. This course will give you an overview of civil asset management at Denver International Airport. What are the civil assets? Denver International Airport (DEN) has a campus size of roughly 34,000 acres. DEN Asset Management is tasked with tracking existing and new assets across the entire airport. Learn how the Digital Facilities and Infrastructure (DFI) group in DEN Asset Management manages airport models and asset models. DFI is tracking 200+ projects at the airport. The Autodesk Construction Cloud Asset Module has model linking so that changes to the models are pushed into the Autodesk Build environment in Autodesk Construction Cloud. In this class, you will see a demo of how asset model linking is done based on criteria loaded into the models by our design consultants. DEN is completing an inventory of airfield stormwater structures. You'll learn how the collection of the data via electronic means has saved time and effort. And you'll see how, as an owner, the data can be used as we manage the civil assets into the future across our maintenance and engineering teams.

The profound shift toward flexible work in recent years has significantly changed the way we use buildings. Contemporary rail projects are vastly complex due to an intersection of several key factors. The deliverables and support that agencies and contractors ask for are scaling with new technology. These technologies are relatively new to the rail design space, and there are currently no precedents for implementing them. On two similar rail projects, tailored workflows and custom automation tools were developed in order to deliver the required standard documentation, visualization, clash detection, and asset management deliverables. The synergy between automation, connected BIM, and creative project workflow were essential to the execution of these projects. In this session, we’ll examine the project needs, collaboration between BIM 360 software and ProjectWise, and automation with the Subassembly Composer, Dynamo, Forge, and LISP.

It’s hard to believe that Revit software has been around for nearly 20 years, but we can’t seem to agree on how to work together with it. This simple fact is the basis for this panel session. Here in 2018, we’ve come a long way from the early days of Revit, but we still can’t seem to get out of our silos and really work together. Sure, we can collaborate on projects, but we still don’t really know what our fellow disciplines need in their Revit models—and, by extension, what we could put in our models to improve theirs. But what if we just asked the other disciplines what they needed? This will be a moderated panel discussion, with 7 different Revit disciplines represented: architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, construction, FM/Owner/Operator, and Software/Revit.

Undertaking a transition from an AutoCAD environment to Revit models at The Ohio State University (OSU) provided great value for the organization. Learn how OSU converted 32 million square feet, decreasing costs, gaining higher levels of accuracy and the ability to more effectively communicate with university stakeholders. Hear from OSU how they overcame several challenges, including how to standardize models, ways to automate repetitive work, getting the most value from Revit models, and sharing and extracting data from models for facilities use. The end result is a clearly defined process to migrate CAD-based drawings, receive correct model data for new projects, a way to validate that newly created models meet OSU standards and maintain those models. The class will be a lecture on the EQ house, the actually built architecture that AI and IoT deployed. It was completed in March of 2019. Installed with advanced IoT technology and AI, EQ House is expected to be attached by the owner as if it were life-like architecture. It is installed with varied sensors to perceive environmental status and accumulates data about the owner’s preference by means of “like” buttons from the smart watch. The experimental design, inspection, and fabrication process was also needed to actually realize the futuristic architecture of the EQ House. By using the optimization process, the design period to determine the pattern of the facade decreased by 60% and through the inspection using BIM 360 Docs software and mixed reality decreased 20%, and the fabrication by 25%.

This session will present how an enlightened building owner (The Ohio State University) has successfully partnered/collaborated with both a Building Information Modeling (BIM)-savvy architect and contractor to develop a BIM project delivery standard that enables the model to serve as a single source of truth for relevant spatial and asset information throughout the building lifecycle. This delivery standard has truly begun with the end in mind by taking advantage of the knowledge gained from the BIM for the existing buildings portion of the Buckeye BIM Initiative. We'll highlight how the .RVT portion of this deliverable will work in collaboration with Revit software's COBie Toolkit-structured data to facilitate its utilization in asset management, space tracking, geographical information system (GIS), and sustainability. Lastly, we will highlight the need to implement Technology Solutions and workflows to enable the use of the model across the university and to support interoperability with other data systems.

This class provides guidance for creating Revit software models that you can use effectively for facilities management. We will focus primarily on the creation of simple models that you can use as the foundations for facility plans to be used for space management, asset management, and maintenance. This class will focus on the basics, such as generating proper area plans, creating areas, and placing assets. We will also explore concepts including level of accuracy; level of development; and communication of your modeling needs to service providers who are creating models for you during the design, engineering, and construction process. We'll wrap up this session by connecting our model to a Computer-Aided Facilities Management / Integrated Workplace Management System (CAFM/IWMS) Solution so we can explore our results in a more traditional facilities management environment.

Building owners are now utilizing Revit models and information created during design and construction to streamline their own operations. To successfully track and report on facilities data a method to reference “places” in the building is needed, particularly with respect to occupants and assets. By understanding the details of how space is used, facility professionals can reduce vacancy and ultimately achieve major reductions in real estate expenses. In this presentation we will discuss how Cloud-based facility management systems with real-time bi-directional integration to a portfolio of Revit models enables space planners and portfolio managers to analyze spatial performance across an entire facilities portfolio. We will also take a close look how Cloud-based Business Intelligence Tools (BI) and distributed secure access to all members of a facilities team can ensure the spatial consistency and quality of Revit model data throughout the lifecycle of a facilities portfolio.
