An open discussion of lessons learned while implementing functionalities of the openBoM application using the Forge Viewer and Data Management API. The discussion will include ademo of the application, an overview of the technical issues and architectural decisions, as well as a discussion of prospects for further use of the Forge platform in the application. Active audience participation is assumed and encouraged.

This industrial case study will cover a recent design-and-make collaboration between Autodesk and Impression Technologies (ITL), an industry-leading, automotive, hot-forming solutions provider. Together we’ll present a comparison of several mold designs across a range of design approaches and manufacturing technologies. We’ll demonstrate how optimizing design for additive manufacturing can be maximized to achieve more-efficient production times and material usage, improved part quality, and reduced part cost and energy consumption. During the project, experts from Autodesk and ITL collaborated via Autodesk CFD software and the Autodesk Fusion 360 platform. We used simulation and several design methodologies, including conformal cooling and the application of lattice structures via the Autodesk Fusion 360 Product Design extension. The project culminated in the tooling production using Autodesk’s Birmingham Technology Centre metal additive manufacturing systems, and testing and validation at ITL’s research facility.

Working with less-than-ideal 3D CAD models is par for the course. This class will cover workflows and techniques to help users prepare and clean up 3D models for downstream use in simulation, rendering, CAM, and protection of IP.

This session will discuss and demonstrate how design for additive manufacturing (DfAM), generative design, and integrated CAM functionality within Fusion 360 software can help businesses optimally capitalize on additive manufacturing (AM), and where opportunities often exist to apply this strategy. In recent years, industrialized construction has become a hot topic. The term “design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA)” is used in many conversations when discussing industrialized construction. We will discuss how DfMA pertains to industrialized construction, what DfMA is, and what DfMA is not.

Now that you know the basics of part and assembly modeling in Inventor software, we will discuss and show some of the more advanced features for assembly modeling in Inventor software. We'll cover some tools and tips of efficiency, differences between top-down and bottom-up assemblies, adaptive parts, model simplification, level of detail, weldments, Inventor Studio environment, and frame generator. This lab will provide an opportunity for customers to get hands on with the new “Revit AnyCAD” functionality in Inventor 2021 software. We will cover some of the theory of why BIM (Building Information Modeling) is important to building product manufacturers and custom fabricators, and level set on our existing BIM exchange tools. We will then work our way through a four-part example use case for referencing Revit data. We will cover some basic cleanup of the model in Revit software, test what we can do with the data in Inventor, marvel as changes made to the Revit model update inside of Inventor, and round-trip the Inventor model back into Revit.

They can only be achieved through a building with integrated building systems, which can only be produced through an integrated process. An integrated process depends on the right people and an integrated team, which needs integrated information—that is, BIM+—to function effectively and efficiently. Simulation and visualization are the primary ways in which BIM+ informs the integrated team. Collaboration and colocation are the primary ways that enable the integrated team to integrate processes. Production management methods enable the productive design, fabrication, and construction of the integrated building system. Outcome metrics define the performance of the building and validate the integrated building system. All of this is supported by the appropriate agreement or framework. In this course, we will focus on the results of simulations. How do you get the most out of the results of your analysis? What are all the options that Fusion 360 simulation provides to review the results of the model? How do I know that the results can be trusted? Is it possible to improve the results that I am given?

In this class, attendees will learn about factor of safety, failure, and how it relates to linear and nonlinear material properties and study types. It is important to know when a design will fail and how it will fail, and this will be highly dependent on using the right material properties and the right type of simulation study.

Throughout the speaker’s 21 years of using, managing, and teaching Inventor software, some interesting things have been done with templates—everything from having predefined solids in a part file to having iLogic rules in a template. Let’s get together and talk about some of the things that we can do to help inspire you to maximize your Inventor templates. A couple of the topics we will look at are iLogic rules in templates, predefining parameters in a template, defined Level of Details in an assembly template, and of course Styles and Standards.

We'll explore the tools and techniques that are available in Fusion 360 to help you repair a wide variety of fusion errors and warnings that can happen when working with a Fusion 360 design. We'll expose you to enough of the internals of Fusion 360 so that you can understand the root cause of these errors. We believe this understanding will help you both to fix the errors when they happen and also how to design/edit in such a way that you avoid ever seeing the errors in the first place. This class will only cover the Design workspace and tools; it will not cover CAM/manufacture, simulation, or drawings.
