ECOFACT is a €12 million, Horizon 2020, EU-funded project made up of 20 consortium members from several European countries aiming at developing an ECO-innovative energy factory management platform using improved dynamic LCA/LCCA toward holistic manufacturing sustainability. The platform will be deployed in four different demo sites: a biscuit factory (Gullon), a Stellantis Group automotive factory (Tofas), a Heineken Group brewery (Athenian Brewery) and a multinational household appliances factory (Arçelik). One team is leading the development of the digital twin platform (DTP), based on Autodesk Forge software and composed of production lines, 3D models, and different applications (material-flow simulations, energy simulations, production planning and scheduling, industrial energy disaggregation, and industrial energy flexibility). The DTP will display simulation results and real-time Internet of Things (IoT) data alongside the 3D models maximizing Autodesk Forge functionalities.

By all accounts, a digital twin of a fixed asset or real-world system is immensely valuable and can be used to support a number of use cases. But, building a digital twin requires a significant amount of data. So, how does one start to build a digital twin? Parsons will highlight the capabilities available within an airport digital twin by showing our work to support the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport digital twin project. The digital twin includes a main runway and passenger terminal. We’ll detail our work to help define digital governance standards, develop a runway-specific asset ontology, and integrate data across multiple source systems: Civil 3D software, Revit software, Infor EAM, Johnson Controls, Veoci Part 139 airfield inspection software, Esri GIS, and ViewMondo weather station data running within the Microsoft Azure Digital Twins cloud. The twin provides real-time updates via Internet of Things (IOT) runway sensors that specify temperature, surface temperature, humidity, and water film. This session will share unique insights and lessons learned regarding the technical and management workflows to plan and execute a digital twin for critical infrastructure assets. What happens when some enthusiastic software developers team up with a few innovative mechanical designers? Henderson Engineers is an MEP design firm that’s been working on developing a modular DFMA (design for manufacture and assembly) air duct system for a while now, and has developed some clever Revit families and Dynamo scripts to help its designers model them. The firm joined forces with EvolveLAB, a building information modeling (BIM) consulting and software development company, to create a Revit add-in that focuses on the real-time generative design of these modular duct layouts. In this session, we’ll review how these companies used some unique properties of the Revit API to create a co-authoring system that allows a mechanical design to sketch out a main duct layout in Revit while the computer simultaneously and continually produces the most optimal layout using the DFMA kit of parts for that sketch—which is then finalized and converted into a fully connected Revit duct system.
