In this roundtable session, we will talk about future directions for AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D software. Come prepared to discuss what features you would like to see in AutoCAD P&ID or AutoCAD Plant 3D. What would you like to do with your data outside your drawings? Topics for discussion include data management, interoperability between AutoCAD P&ID and AutoCAD Plant 3D, validations, and spec-driven P&ID.

In this class, you will learn how to create and customize a sample AutoCAD P&ID software project. We will show you how to customize a title block to include company information, modify AutoCAD P&ID to use your own layering system, and create company blocks for your project. The class will cover how class structure affects symbol creation and how dynamic block tools work with AutoCAD P&ID. You will also learn how to work with project fields and find out where project settings are stored.

In this class, we will go through the steps to map items in AutoCAD P&ID drawings to objects in AutoCAD Plant 3D. AutoCAD Plant 3D 2018 software now includes the ability for users to push AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD P&ID projects to the cloud and invite users to work collaboratively. In this class, we'll go through getting started on pushing a project to the cloud, and we'll cover how to navigate the user interface.

Having a diverse software landscape is common in a global chemical enterprise such as Bayer. There is a vital need to exchange plant data such as P&ID drawings between systems, but often a low-quality exchange has to be followed by time-consuming manual rework. The ISO 15926 initiative aims to define a global generic standard for exchanging plant data. The XMpLant schema provides a widely accepted format to adapt the current ISO 15926 standard for practical use. AutoCAD® P&ID is the first Autodesk program that supports bidirectional data exchange based on ISO 15926/XMpLant. We review the ISO15926 and the DEXPI initiative. We then provide a preview of the new AutoCAD P&ID XMpLant interface. Learn how Bayer, BASF, and others are working with Autodesk and other vendors to evolve the ISO 15926 standard. Using practical application examples from current projects within Bayer, we discuss how Bayer could streamline migration projects and internal P&ID data exchange using this technology.

AutoCAD 2019 software has added specialized toolsets to subscribed users of AutoCAD 2019. AutoCAD Plant 3D software and AutoCAD P&ID software are some of the toolsets that are now available. In this class, you will see how to take advantage of the AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD P&ID toolsets to add and improve your existing AutoCAD software workflow. AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD P&ID are intelligent programs that will enable you to work more intelligently and do things you could not do with basic AutoCAD.

Now that database-driven projects are becoming increasingly common, it’s a good idea to know how to work with your database outside of AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D software. This class will cover the use of AutoCAD P&ID software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and the project Microsoft SQL Database. Learn how to improve productivity and troubleshooting through the development of key concepts that will help you to best utilize the project database and the benefits it can provide. This class will also cover some tips and tricks for working with your project database, as well as some examples of what not to do with your database.

In this class you will learn how AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D software work with their databases, what databases exist in AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and what is stored in them. We will cover the tables and views that exist and what these tables and views contain. Along with the existing views, you will see how the databases that you can use with a tool like PlantLink have the potential to speed up your creation of a piping and instrumentation diagram. You will learn how to become faster and create fewer errors. We will create several customer examples with varying degrees of complexity.

In this class, attendees will learn how to improve productivity and workflows by utilizing Data Manager within AutoCAD Plant 3D software and AutoCAD P&ID software, Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, and database commands within AutoCAD P&ID software. Specific focuses will include filtering, modification, report creation, import/export of data, permissions, and connections. Topics will include developing software utilizing information/data within Data Manager, SQL Server Management Studio, and DB Connect manager; integrating various workflows to maximize productivity by utilizing the information and tools provided within each software; developing a systematic approach as to how these databases relate to one another and how connections can be made; and management required for project history and security. In this class, we’ll go through some items you might not know about when using AutoCAD Plant 3D software and AutoCAD P&ID software. The focus will be on tips and tricks that you might not be aware of that will make AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD P&ID work better for you. These tips and tricks go beyond the out-of-the-box setup and have helped many users. We’ll also provide information for other AutoCAD software packages that use workflows with AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD P&ID. This knowledge will be useful to incorporate into your daily routine and give you the edge you need to improve productivity.

New possibilities for data flow are the result of the Spec Driven P&ID feature introduced in AutoCAD Plant 3D 2017.1 software. Existing spec sheets can be used to facilitate the preparation of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID). The interface between AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D offers the possibility to connect the P&ID data with the 3D to let the data flow into it, or to run consistency checks between the P&ID and the 3D data. This lecture will show the configuration possibilities and present conceivable workflows, which should lead to an optimization of the project process that also prevents redundant data input.

Using this feature you will learn how you can use your existing component data, from multiple external data sources, to drive AutoCAD Plant 3D software properties and AutoCAD P&ID software properties for creating deliverable documentation.

Plant Design Suite provides comprehensive plant design and piping software in an economic package. AutoCAD Plant 3D software and AutoCAD P&ID software can very effectively help in the design and modeling of plant projects; however, troubleshooting problems related to Plant Design Suite can be a challenging task. In this class we will cover the 'sore spots' of AutoCAD Plant 3D software. You will learn how to troubleshoot the most common challenges, including project setup and configuration, networking issues, Vault software, inaccessible projects, customer's custom parts, equipment, specs and catalogs, XML codes editing, and migration problems. You will also learn how to use Revit software data in AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and you will learn how to incorporate AutoCAD Structural Detailing software drawings and Inventor software part and assembly models into an AutoCAD Plant 3D software project for a better workflow.

In this class, we will present multiple case studies on how petroleum refineries have implemented AutoCAD P&ID software as part of environmental compliance projects to achieve a reduction in actual and reported VOC and HAP emissions. We will cover a stepwise workflow process for owner-operators and engineering, procurement, and construction firms to follow, engaging various plant disciplines, including CAD, engineering, and environmental and safety, that are favorably affected by this workflow. Specifically, the case study will share a process for using data-driven drawings to achieve improved compliance with environmental and safety regulations. We will also supply you with the questions to ask at your plant, as well as the tools to begin driving your operating plants towards environmental and safety excellence (and reduced emissions).

Autodesk is constantly looking for ways to improve the user experience. Interoperability between programs is a hallmark of this policy, but sometimes they haven’t quite gotten us there…yet. At Gannett Fleming, we wanted to start using AutoCAD P&ID software, but also wanted to find a way to link the data to AutoCAD Revit MEP software. And that’s what this class is about. We will cover how to review and determine the need for Revit optimization, how to approach optimization from the proper perspective, what you need to know from the program developer to novice user, and how to get it implemented. As an example, we will review how we approached linking data between Revit MEP instrumentation and AutoCAD P&ID drawing data. You’ll walk away with the added benefit of planning documents to help smooth the way. You will also learn what works and what doesn’t, so be prepared to take your Revit to the next level!

In this class you will learn some useful steps to customize content to use in your AutoCAD P&ID software projects. We will lead you through accessing the project setup and understanding what you can edit. We will particularly focus on accessing engineering items. This will involve creating custom equipment, inline assets, instrumentation, and lines. In addition you will learn how to create unique tagging and custom off-page connectors.

First, this class will explain why we need data from the database when acquisition rules won’t do it. You will hear about the limitations of acquisition rules, and you’ll see several examples of how data can flow between AutoCAD P&ID software objects. We will also explain why customers needed the various data flows for their daily work. You will see examples of data flowing between instruments, even if those instruments are in different AutoCAD P&ID drawings. And we will show how the Views in your AutoCAD P&ID database look, and how you can use them in your AutoCAD P&ID drawing with PlantLink so the data actually flow. This session features AutoCAD P&ID and AutoCAD Plant 3D.

Can AutoCAD P&ID software save time? In a word? Yes! In this class you will learn the information needed to make a case for upgrading to AutoCAD Plant P&ID software.
