The fast-growing network around unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as well as the availability of cloud-based processing and analysis services, enables the emergence of a category of new workflows that disrupt the conventional surveying methods. By flying a UAV around a house or a building to capture aerial images, and by processing such images to produce meaningful 2D orthographic views and 3D data using Autodesk, Inc., photo-to-3D service, we have developed a complete solution that delivers the necessary reports in a fraction of the time and cost usually necessary to get such reports. Insurance adjusters are now being offered a completely new, automated solution that avoids using ladders to climb on roofs to measure or visually inspect them following a claim. A hybrid cloud is a cloud-computing environment that uses a mix of applications on different infrastructures relying on orchestrated integration between the platforms. The infrastructures can be on-premise services; private cloud services; and third-party, public cloud services. This a legitimate option even if all the components are not pure cloud. Our Fusion Lifecycle implementations are typically hybrid cloud; we use Vault data management software (deployed as either on premise or private cloud) and Fusion Lifecycle software (pure cloud). These environments come with their own challenges. In this class, we'll discuss these challenges and provide recommendations on how to optimize these heterogeneous environments.

Laser scanning has become a very prevalent topic in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry over the last several years. While the software and hardware has dramatically improved over the years, offsetting or justifying the costs can be a challenge. Rather the project is driven by schedule or cost constraints. There are many unique aspects to designing and building a proton treatment facility. As an emerging type of treatment for cancer, proton centers present challenges that are not like any other healthcare project. With the complexity of the systems that support this new type of treatment, the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) plays a crucial role in the development of these types of projects.
