Building information modeling (BIM) is part of a broader dynamic of digital transformation of railway systems operation. Therefore, BIM implementation goes further than intelligent modeling. Railway systems requirements are shaping BIM goals. Railway systems are made of multiples subsystems, managed using various technologies. Information flows between different tools, and their traceability and validation are critical for railway systems integration. SNCF set up a different initiative. The Minerve project is funded by French authorities, and launched with the main French railway players. Its aim is to enable BIM requirements for railway subdomains. SNCF participates in the IFC Rail project for interoperability between subdomain for systems integration. SNCF is working on overall railway systems architecture to specify required railway’s function and information flow for systems integration both in its geometric and functional dimension.

In this class, we discuss how we implemented AutoCAD Utility Design software at Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU). We cover strategies for implementing the software to include processes, from design to asset realization. We cover AutoCAD Utility Design standardization, uniform processes and data flow, and how we incorporated them into upstream and downstream workflows to produce reliable engineering designs. CSU is also implementing the system for gas distribution design.

This class will provide an introduction to building integrations with the Forge platform using standard integration patterns in Mulesoft. Mulesoft is a lightweight event-driven Enterprise Service Bus that provides a robust encapsulation of the core integration patterns as described in the popular book Enterprise Integration Patterns by Hohpe and Woolf. We will demonstrate a custom Forge Anypoint connector built on the Mulesoft integration platform that allows for easy access to the capabilities provided by the Forge platform. Using this connector, Forge functions can be accessed directly from the business process flow editor in Mulesoft. We will go over how businesses can leverage this connector to build repeatable integration solutions using Forge and other enterprise applications. The class will provide a technical demo of a business process orchestration connecting a Force.com application and Netsuite with Forge. By using the Mule ESB for Forge integrations, enterprises can benefit by using standard canonical models to interface with multiple systems as well as leverage common enterprise services for monitoring and security. Follow an Advance Steel detailing software project through the process of approval, nesting, ordering, fabrication, and shipping and see how FabSuite manages and distributes information at each step. In the office, FabSuite tracks document approval and revisions to and from AutoCAD software. Nesting system integrations use inventory and computer numerical control (CNC) information to optimize material usage. In the shop, phones or computer tablets with FabSuite's Remote Link provide tracking of both inventory and parts as they are fabricated, assembled, and shipped. Observe the flow of data as FabSuite processes real-time updates from both the office and the shop-and, in turn, provides real-time updates and tracking to Advance Steel.

In this class, we feature 2 utilities who have taken advantage of the MultiSpeak integration that is available for AutoCAD® Map 3D software and other Autodesk software and who have created workflows and processes that streamline their systems for efficiency. Welland Hydro Electric System upgraded their GIS to AutoCAD Map 3D, and after implementing Autodesk® Infrastructure Map Server software, integrated their outage management system to produce a graphical depiction of outages. The City of College Station and College Station Utilities updated their legacy CAD-based system to a database-centric system and have integrated their industry model with Milsoft™, enabling greater efficiency in maintaining their GIS. These case studies demonstrate how low-cost integrations can be achieved with existing systems using Autodesk software and MultiSpeak®. We cover the process these utilities went through, their issues and solutions, and their goals for the future.

Fusion Lifecycle software produces lots and lots of very valuable data. This data is arguably more valuable when you use it to integrate with external systems (like reporting databases) and drive external applications. In this class, we'll explore techniques for inserting Fusion Lifecycle data into an on-premise SQL database, and for driving a C# application using Fusion Lifecycle data. As Building Information Modeling (BIM) has matured, we have gained the ability to link and integrate data from the BIM model to many other systems. This class focuses on integrating BIM with facilities management (FM) and operations and maintenance (O&M). The class describes how we include the FM team during design to enable full integration of systems, as well as integrating facility data to enable access to information from many standard FM products. We review an example of how we applied data to the BIM model and delivered it to the FM products, enabling a familiar interface for FM and O&M managers to manage the facility after construction. We also look at using virtual FM, which enables a facility to be tested during design and construction. This is a must-attend class for building owners and facility managers who want to maximize the benefits of BIM from design to asset management.
