This workshop for CTE (career and technical education) teachers and industry professionals will focus on fostering innovation, collaboration, and partnership within the CTE community. By enhancing lesson plans, building industry partnerships, and engaging post-secondary educators, we can better prepare our students for success in the ever-evolving workforce. Industry personnel are encouraged to attend to lend expertise in designing exciting hands-on activities and industry-specific lesson plans. Currently, there is a nationwide career and technical educator (CTE) shortage, and the reasons for it are multifaceted and numerous. The shortage of quality CTE teachers contributes to the growing skills gap that affects our food and fiber and manufacturing industries. With data from the Missouri Department of Secondary Education to support the research, Allan Sharrock will share a new white paper outlining the various reasons why there are CTE teacher shortages and how CTE teachers earn their certifications. Sharrock will also discuss case studies detailing how manufacturing knowledge impacts the food and fiber industries. With these insights and recommendations, Sharrock hopes to deliver new inspiration for changes in how CTE teachers are trained and credentialed nationwide.

We’ll explore the tools that teachers will find most useful for conducting their classes in today's dynamic environment to ensure you can keep offering the best instruction, regardless of where you or your students are working.

Research in the areas of cognition and learning underscore the fact that the still dominant 20th-century model of schooling is failing to prepare students for the realities of life and work in the 21st-century global economy. This class focuses on how the new U.S. Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) can serve as a catalyst for innovating new technology-enhanced approaches to learning that can mitigate this problem. These standards are built upon a foundation of reasoning practices that if implemented appropriately will significantly alter curriculum, pedagogy, and the roles of teachers and students inside and outside of the classroom. Through a series of case studies, attendees can learn how Autodesk® design and creativity apps, when aligned with CCSS and NGSS, can create new paradigms for student learning in core academic areas that include English language arts, social studies, science, math, and art.

This session tells the story of how a father's love is changing the lives of thousands. My son, Sol, sadly lost most of his left arm following an injury at birth. As a former psychology teacher, I knew that waiting 12 months for an NHS prosthetic was not an option. After achieving good results with foam arms from when Sol was 5 weeks of age, I went on to invent a new kind of prosthetic that is inspired by how spiders use fluid pressure to move their limbs. I founded Ambionics to develop the technology and help other children around the world. This session will touch on some technology (e.g., teaching myself CAD design using Fusion 360 and YouTube tutorials) and footage of some of the early prototypes made from off-the-shelf parts. I will talk about some of the difficulties of learning to make prosthetics for a growing child and the importance of staying close to the medical standard (e.g. the creation of digital prosthetic sockets) and of course how the hydraulics are developing, and more.

A typical approach to teaching computer-generated imagery (CGI) is through lectures and a series of homework, then reviewed by teachers. This approach is highly ineffective, requiring additional educational materials and help from teachers during all practical exercises. The most effective learning method is through in-class training with a teacher’s guidance. Meanwhile, using old teaching methods leads to a longer and steeper learning curve, and to an inability to solve practical problems during everyday work. In this lesson, we will tell you about a new approach to teaching CGI based on the Heuristic teaching model. We will reveal how to build a training system that empowers students to learn from zero all stages of photoreal rendering creation in 23 days. As a result of that training program, students learn to create a room 3D project in six hours.

A small group of not-so-small airports have seized positions of leadership in the aviation industry as adopters of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and integration with geographic information system (GIS) and asset management. As part of that position of leadership, they’ve also taken on the roles of mentors and teachers for other airports, sharing their victories, their failings, and their lessons learned. We will discuss what these airports are doing to lead the way and what other airports are doing as they surge to catch up.

In this class, you will learn how to use InfraWorks 360 software to create a bridge design and then transfer it to Revit software to make a more parametric structural bridge. You will then use Revit software to create structural rebar drawings based on the revised design. Finally, you will transfer this information back to InfraWorks 360 software to continue your site design. Dzan Ta and Dave Young of ReproProducts will teach this class. While it's not directly shown, it's likely that the teachers at Hogwarts used a lot of magic to make quick work of the mundane prep for their classes. This session will review applications of generative design from the standpoint of the graph author rather than the user. Using Generative Design in Revit software, we'll use our own brand of magic to find the optimal seating chart in potions (Revit integration), lay out the care of magical creatures OWL on the Hogwarts grounds (FormIt 360 software), and design the layout for the campgrounds at the Quidditch World Cup (Civil 3D software). This magic may not be as old as what the students at Hogwarts learn, but it will still help move your Revit, FormIt 360, and Civil 3D work to the next level via Generative Design in Revit!

The class will start with a brief presentation to introduce the support organization, the speakers, and the current customer support options. This is a real-time question-and-answer session, so please come prepared with questions about AutoCAD software. A computer will be in the class running AutoCAD 2025 software for attendees who need to demonstrate their issues.
