Step-by-step guide
River structures can be modelled as ancillary links to control flow by influencing the hydraulics of the river. In this example, an irregular weir is added to the existing river reach network from survey data stored in a cross section line. To complete this exercise, copy the network from the transportable database .icmt file for this tutorial.
- From the Database, double-click the 1D River Model to open it on the GeoPlan.
To help locate objects, the AutoLabel function is enabled for the Node and Cross section line ID field.
- In the GeoPlan Tools toolbar, click Find in GeoPlan.
- In the Quick Find dialog box, in the Name field, type āWeirā.
- Click Find.
- Once the weir is located, Close the Quick Find window.
- From the GeoPlan Tools toolbar, expand the New Object Type combo box and select Link.
- On the GeoPlan, draw a new link from upstream node 15US to downstream node 16DS.
- In the Create New Link popup, set the Type to Irregular weir.
- Set the System Type to other.
- Click OK.
In the Properties window, notice the inline validation is red because elevation data is not entered yet.
The elevation data is contained within the weir cross section data. To fix the issue, copy and paste the data from one properties table to the other:
- Using the Select tool, on the GeoPlan, double-click the Weir to open its Properties window.
- In the Section data field, click the ellipsis (ā¦) button to open the Section data window.
- Press and hold CTRL while clicking the column headers for both Offset and Bed Level (m AD) to select the contents of both columns.
- Right-click the selection and select Copy.
- In the popup about copying the column headers, click No.
- Click OK to close the Section data window.
- On the GeoPlan, double-click the new Irregular weir to open the Properties window.
- In the Chainage elevation field, click the ellipsis (ā¦) button to open the Chainage elevation table.
- Right-click the first blank cell.
- Select Paste to populate the fields.
- Click OK.
In the Properties window, the validation error is cleared. The Crest level is automatically set to the lowest elevation.
