Step-by-step guide
Often, nodes and links need to be added manually to an existing network. InfoWorks ICM includes facilities for rapidly adding nodes and links to the GeoPlan without having to name each object or view the object property sheet. In this tutorial, two pump links are added to the existing network.
- Open the transportable database .icmt file for this tutorial.
- In the GeoPlan Tools toolbar, click the Find in GeoPlan icon.
- Using the Quick Find option, in the Name field, type “TF91299301”.
- Click Find.
The model zooms in on the pumping station.
- Repeat the Quick Find operation to locate the Inlet that the pump link is being created for.
- OR, in the GeoPlan, pan and zoom to locate the inlet.
Note: The link must be drawn from the pumping station to the inlet, as it is a unidirectional link.
- From the GeoPlan Tools toolbar, expand the New Object Type drop-down.
- Select Link.
- In the GeoPlan, zoom in and hover the cursor over the pumping station until the crosshair appears.
- Click the pumping station to start the link.
- Zoom out to drag the link towards the inlet.
- Click once or twice near the inlet to create a bend.
- Hover the cursor over the inlet until the crosshair appears.
- Click the inlet to close the link.
- In the Create New Link dialog box, confirm the upstream and downstream node IDs.
- Expand the Type drop-down and select Pump.
- Click OK.
The new pump link appears in the GeoPlan, and the Properties window opens.
- Follow the same steps to add another pump between the same two nodes, leaving some space between the links to visually identify the separate pump links.
In the Properties window, there are red in-line validation errors for missing parameters for the two new pumps.
- From the GeoPlan Tools toolbar, click the Select tool.
- In the GeoPlan, double-click the first pump link just created.
- In the Properties window, for the Switch on level, enter 28.200.
- For the Switch off level, enter 28.000.
- For the Discharge value, enter 0.036.
- Double-click the second pump link.
- In the Properties window, set the Switch on level to 28.400.
- Set the Switch off level to 28.000.
- Set the Discharge value to 0.042.
- On the Validation toolbar, click Validate to validate the network.
Only yellow warning and blue information messages should appear.
- Click Commit to commit the changes to the new network.
- Add a comment of "2 pump links added".
- Click OK.
