In Civil 3D, the Toolspace window is an integral component in the user interface for accessing commands, styles, and data.

To access the Toolspace window, from the Home or View tab, in the Palettes panel, click Toolspace.

From the Toolspace window, you can switch among tabs to access and manage commands and information related to the following:

Prospector: design objects, data shortcuts, and Vault projects

Settings: object settings, styles, and other drawing items, such as point file formats, description key sets, and grading criteria sets

Survey: survey projects, data, and settings

Toolbox: reports, subscription extensions, and custom tools

The Toolspace tabs have several controls in common,

including a tree structure, context menus, and object icons.

The Toolspace trees display items in a hierarchical structure.

Any item that contains other items below it in the tree structure is a collection.

The symbol displayed next to a collection name informs you about the display of items in the collection.

For example, a plus (+) symbol signifies that the collection contains items that are not displayed.

Click the plus (+) symbol to expand the tree and display the items.

You can also right-click an item or collection to display a context menu with applicable commands.

Here are some additional tips for getting the most out of the Toolspace tabs:

Use the buttons at the top of the Toolspace tab for controls specific to that tab.

Above the tree, use the drop-down list to control which items are displayed in the tree.

When you select items in the tree, additional information may be displayed in an item view,

which is shown in a pane next to or under the main tree.

You can adjust the size of the item view by moving the bar that separates it from the tree.
