Use a conceptual design from InfraWorks that was published to ArcGIS Online to create a pipe network design in Civil 3D.

Once a conceptual layout of a proposed model has been published to ArcGIS Online,

you can connect to that data and bring it into Civil 3D to create a final design.

In this example, InfraWorks is open to a proposed sewer layout model.

To access the data already published in ArcGIS Online, from the Insert tab, in the ArcGIS panel, click Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS.

A map view appears in ArcGIS Online.

To connect to the sewer datasets you need, click the My Content tab.

You can use previously known tags to search for published content.

In this example, a tag is entered into the search field.

Once the search results display, choose the content you want to include in your model, and then select Conceptual_sanitary.

Now, in the Conceptual_sanitary panel, from the Layers group, toggle ON the visibility of the layers you want to see.

In this case, the layers for PROPOSED_SEWER_LINES

Next, select the model to see the sewer layout.

Be aware that you do have the option to bring the data in as gravity pipes and structures,

but this data published from InfraWorks is just for layout purposes.

It might not have all the data you need to create a complete gravity pipe network in Civil 3D,

but there is enough to begin creating a final design in Civil 3D.

So, for this example, you can represent the sewer lines as feature lines and the manholes as points.

To do this, back in the Conceptual_sanitary panel, from the PROPOSED_SEWER_LINES layer,

expand the Select Feature Type drop-down and click Feature Lines.

Then expand the PROPOSED_SEWER MANHOLES layer Select Feature Type drop-down and click COGO Points.

Then, click Add to my design project.

The Civil 3D loading dialog displays.

In Civil 3D, after the Arc GIS data loads, you can already see the conceptual sewer layout in the drawing window.

Now, you can create a pipe network using visual cues.

To do this, on the ribbon, Home tab, Create Design panel, expand the Pipe Network drop-down and select Pipe Network Creation Tools.

Next, in the Create Pipe Network panel, in the Network name entry field, type a descriptive name, such as “sewer line a”.

In the Surface name entry field, select combined, and then click OK.

In the Network Layout Tools toolbar that appears, you can now select the parts you want to use,

the surface to set the rim elevation to, alignments to follow, and more.

Start by selecting the type of pipe you want to use.

For this example, select Concentric Structure 48 dia 18 frame 24 cone 5 wall 6 floor.

Next, choose your pipe size.

From the PVC Pipe tree menu, click 8.0 inch PVC Pipe.

Then, from the Draw Pipes and Structures tree menu, select Pipes and Structures.

Now, in the drawing, place the manholes and pipe.
