In Forma, area metrics is an instant analysis that provides immediate feedback
00:09
on how your design decisions impact the key stats associated with your project,
00:14
depending on where the project is located.
00:17
Area metrics are especially helpful for mixed use projects when you need to designate different coverages.
00:25
With a project open, from the right panel, under Area metrics, select Area metrics settings.
00:32
In the Area metrics dialog, the metrics that are available are specific to the region your project is located in.
00:40
From here, you can create new metrics, and you can hide, delete, or change the calculation rules for existing metrics.
00:49
Next, open the Functions tab.
00:52
The default functions display, including Residential, Commercial, and Unspecified functions.
00:59
Click Create new function.
01:02
The dialog updates with options to define the new function.

Specify the color and the name of the new function.
01:10
In this case, a blue color is assigned, and the function is named, “Office”.
01:16
Then, specify the inputs for the function, such as the rentable area (RA), the gross floor area (GFA), and the building coverage (BC).
01:29
Once defined, select Create function.
01:33
The dialog returns to the Area metrics tab.
01:37
Open the Functions tab again to review the newly created function.
01:41
Be aware that custom ratios for calculating key figures is possible in Forma.
01:48
Area metrics in Forma provide key statistics specific to the location of the project on selected buildings,
01:55
both in absolute numbers and the percentage of the total area.
