Create a traffic simulation animation in your InfraWorks model.
Type:
Tutorial
Length:
3 min.
Transcript
00:03
In InfraWorks, you can create a traffic simulation, which allows you to view and analyze traffic flows along roads,
00:11
intersections, and roundabouts.
00:14
Begin by opening an InfraWorks model with planning roads already converted into component roads,
00:20
and with a defined traffic study area actively selected.
00:25
From the Traffic Study Area panel, under Analysis Display, you can set the result volume information for your simulation.
00:33
This lets you configure demand parameters for traffic to and from the demand zones within the model.
00:40
For this example, under Analysis Display, set Result Volumes to Per Approach and set the Delay Threshold to 20 seconds.
00:49
With the result volume set, color-coded queue lengths based on demand will be added to the traffic study area when you run the simulation.
00:58
The color represents the delay time.
01:00
Queues appear red if the delay exceeds the threshold you set, visually warning you if there is a problem with traffic queuing in that area.
01:09
Now, run a quick simulation.
01:12
Still in the Traffic Study Area panel, under Simulation, expand the Simulations drop-down.
01:19
Here, you can choose from pre-built simulations.
01:22
For this example, select Quick Simulation.
01:26
Then, click Run Simulation to create a traffic flow animation file.
01:31
Keep in mind that this can take some time.
01:34
A loading dialog appears, reporting progress, as InfraWorks prepares the Mobility Simulation equivalent of your model.
01:41
When the analysis is complete, the Animation Player lists the animation with a status of Ready.
01:48
To view the traffic simulation animation, click Play.
01:53
You can adjust the speed of the animation as needed using the speed buttons.
01:57
Zoom in to the model for a better view.
02:00
In this example, there is not a lot of traffic activity, because the pre-built simulations are configured with relatively low demands.
02:08
Zoom further into an intersection, if necessary, to see the color-coded queue lengths based on demand.
02:16
As you have seen, viewing custom traffic simulation animations
02:21
allows you to understand and predict the traffic flow patterns in your InfraWorks model.
