Once you have created a layout and placed a border and title block,
00:08
you are ready to create some view ports,
00:10
view ports are essentially windows that look back at and display
00:14
a portion of what has been created in model space.
00:18
A
00:19
previously saved model space view can be inserted onto a layout as a viewport.
00:25
Since a viewport is a drawing object,
00:28
you should create a separate layer for the view ports.
00:31
That way you will be able to turn the viewport
00:34
borders on and off by changing their layer visibility.
00:39
The exercise file already has a layer named view ports
00:44
on the home ribbon
00:45
in the layers panel,
00:47
expand the layer drop down and select view ports as the current layer.
00:54
Now you are ready to place view ports
00:57
on the layout ribbon
00:59
in the layout, view ports, panel, select insert view.
01:04
Since the drawing includes named views,
01:07
you see a gallery showing all of the named model views
01:12
to insert a named view. Simply select that view from the gallery.
01:18
For example, select the floor plan view.
01:22
The program prompts you to specify the location of the view.
01:27
AUTOCAD automatically applies the annotation scale of
01:31
the view to the viewport scale,
01:33
if it will fit onto the sheet,
01:36
if it does not fit,
01:37
it applies a standard scale based on the size of the named view and the layout
01:42
so that the view fits on half the sheet.
01:46
As you move the cursor, you see an outline of the view.
01:50
Before placing the view,
01:52
you can right click to change the scale of the
01:55
view by selecting the desired scale from a menu.
01:59
In this case, the view has been correctly scaled to 1/8 inch equals 1 ft.
02:05
Press escape to close the menu
02:07
and then click to place the view.
02:10
You immediately see the new viewport which contains the floor plan view.
02:16
You can then select the viewport border and use
02:19
grips to change the size of the viewport.
02:25
Then press escape to deselect the viewport
02:30
on the layout ribbon
02:32
in the layout view ports, panel,
02:33
click insert view again to display the gallery and select the reception view
02:40
again. As soon as you do, you see a preview of the viewport,
02:45
click to place that view above the floor plan view,
02:50
then select its border
02:53
on the status bar.
02:55
You can see that the viewport has been assigned the
02:58
correct scale of one half inch equals 1 ft.
03:02
Press escape to deselect the viewport.
03:07
Repeat these steps one more time to select the conference room view from the gallery
03:14
again as you move the cursor,
03:16
you see a preview of the viewport.
03:19
This time since the viewport size does not look quite right,
03:24
right. Click to display the menu of standard scales.
03:28
Auto catt has automatically selected a scale of 1 to 30
03:33
since that is not the desired scale. Simply select one quarter inch equals 1 ft.
03:40
As soon as you do the viewport preview changes size.
03:45
Click to place the viewport in the upper right
03:51
as you have seen inserting named views as Viewport yields the same
03:56
result as the multi step process of first creating a viewport,
03:60
then making it active,
04:01
then setting the scale and then resizing the viewport as needed.
04:06
But it does everything in a single step.
04:10
In addition,
04:11
note that when you select the border of any of the view ports, you just created
04:17
on the status bar,
04:19
you can see that the viewport is already locked
04:22
so that you cannot accidentally change the scale.
04:26
So inserting a named view as a Viewport also saves you the
04:31
step of having to manually lock each viewport after you create it.
