Setting up a live data feed

Set up a live data feed.

Step-by-step Guide

After defining a connection to a remote server in InfoWorks WS Pro, give your live data configuration the information required to find feeds within the server—which, in this exercise, is the Bridge CSV database.

  1. In the Model Group, double-click Live Data Configuration.
  2. In the Live Data Feed grid window, click the Live Data Feed tab.

In the InfoWorks WS Pro interface, the LiveData Feed grid window with the Live Data Feed tab called out.

The feed tab can be set up manually or by using a live data CSV file to do it automatically.

To set up the feed tab manually:

  1. In the Feed Name column, click the first cell and type “189435”.
  2. In the Connection column, expand the drop-down and select Bridge.
  3. In the External Units column, select l/s (liters per second).
  4. Set the Offset to “0”.
  5. Set the Factor to “1”.

This example requires no adjustments to the input values.

  1. In the Time-step column, select 15 Mins.
  2. Set the Time Window to “15”.
  3. In the Adaptor column, select Generic.
  4. In the Table Name column, select M189435.csv.

The empty cells that do not require information now appear grayed out.

The Live Data Feed grid window, Live Data Feed tab, with values entered in the first row and cells that do not require information grayed out.

If you are using multiple feeds, it is much easier to populate the feed tab automatically, using a live data CSV file:

  1. In the second row of the grid, click the Feed Name cell.
  2. In the Model Group, right-click Live Data Configuration and select Update > From CSV.

In the Model Group, the Live Data Configuration shortcut menu displayed with Update selected, and in the flyout, From CSV selected.

  1. In the Import / Update from CSV Data dialog, click OK.
  2. In the file browser, open the Live Data folder.
  3. Select BridgeTownLiveData.csv.
  4. Click Open.

In the file browser, the Live Data folder, with BridgeTownLiveData.csv highlighted and Open selected.

  1. When the file browser reopens to allow another file selection, click Cancel.

A window opens with the results of the CSV data import and a notification that new objects were created in the Live Data Feed. In the Live Data Feed tab, new feeds are now listed, including all required information.

The Live Data Feed table with new feeds listed, and a Results window with results of the CSV data import.

  1. Close the results window.

In the Live Data Feed, notice the Offset and Factor columns. The Offset value is added to all telemetry data in the feed to adjust the positioning or reference point of the incoming data. The Factor adjusts incoming telemetry data to account for known inconsistencies and uncertainty. It applies only to live data points coming from files.

  1. Click the Live Data Point tab.
  2. Under Live Data Point ID, right-click the first cell and select Add live data feed.

In the Live Data Point table, the Live Data Point ID shortcut menu with Add live data feed selected and called out.

  1. In the Choose Telemetry Point dialog box, enable Select All.
  2. Click OK.

The Live Data Point table automatically populates with the data entered into the Live Data Feed table.
