Regardless of what you design sheet sets enable you to efficiently create manage
00:09
and share your entire set of drawing sheets from one convenient location.
00:14
The first step in implementing sheet set functionality is to create a sheet set.
00:20
You can create a sheet set using an example sheet
00:23
set or by simply importing existing drawing layouts as sheets.
00:29
In order to create a new sheet set based on existing drawings,
00:32
those drawings must use layouts.
00:35
This process does not alter those drawings.
00:38
It simply creates a sheet set file,
00:41
a file with a dot DS T file extension
00:44
which includes pointers to those drawing files
00:48
to create a sheet set.
00:50
You must first open the sheet set manager
00:54
on the view ribbon
00:55
in the pallets panel, click sheet set manager
01:01
to create a new sheet set
01:04
in the sheet set manager palette
01:06
expand the drop down in the upper left and choose new sheet set
01:12
to open the create sheet set wizard
01:14
which will step you through the process of creating a new sheet set.
01:20
In this exercise, you will create a new sheet set based on existing drawings.
01:25
On the first page of the wizard,
01:27
choose existing drawings
01:30
and then click next
01:33
on the sheet set, details page
01:36
in the name of new sheet set field.
01:39
Enter the name for the sheet set.
01:42
Typically, this would be the project name
01:46
for this exercise
01:47
type townhouse.
01:52
If you wish in the description field,
01:54
you can optionally enter a description for the sheet set
01:60
in the store sheet set
02:01
data
02:02
file dot DS T here field,
02:05
you must specify the location in which you want to store the sheet set data file.
02:11
Typically,
02:12
this would be the main folder for this project.
02:15
Click the adjacent button to open a file dialog so
02:20
that you can browse to select the sheet set folder.
02:24
Navigate to the folder containing the exercise files,
02:28
drill down into the sheet set dash 01 folder
02:34
and then click open.
02:37
Although you could set the sheet set properties at this point, it
02:41
is a simple matter to go back and set them later.
02:44
So simply click next
02:48
on the choose layouts, page, click the browse button.
02:53
The program displays a browse for folder dialogue
02:57
so that you can navigate to the folder where your project drawings are located.
03:02
Typically,
03:03
this would be the main folder that includes
03:05
the project drawings and or drawing sub folders.
03:09
In
03:09
this case,
03:11
navigate to the sheet sets, dash 01 folder,
03:15
select it
03:17
and click. OK.
03:20
Now on the choose layouts, page,
03:23
you see a list of layouts that were found in the folder you selected.
03:27
You can expand the folders and drawings so that you can select all
03:32
the layouts that you want to include as sheets in the sheet set.
03:36
If your drawings include multiple layouts,
03:39
they will be displayed in the list.
03:42
You should only select those drawings and layouts
03:45
that you want to be represented as sheets.
03:48
For example, you would not select drawings of model geometry that are used as X
03:54
refs.
03:55
In this case, select all six number drawings
03:59
but clear the references folder.
04:04
Before proceeding to the next step, click import options
04:08
to open the import options. Dialogue
04:12
here you can specify the options that fit your situation.
04:15
For example,
04:17
select prefix sheet titles with file name
04:21
so that the drawing file name will be included as part of the sheet name.
04:26
If you wanted to create subsets in the sheet set that match folders,
04:31
you would select the option to create subsets based on folder structure
04:38
if you were to select that option,
04:40
but you did not want to create a subset of
04:42
the main folder from which you were importing your drawings.
04:46
You could choose the option to ignore top level folder
04:50
for this exercise. Do not select these options.
04:54
Just be aware that you can always reorganize your sheet set later
04:60
click OK
05:01
to close the import options. Dialogue
05:04
then
05:05
click next.
05:08
Finally on the confirm page, you can review the sheet set structure.
05:14
If the sheet set preview is missing sheets or has extra sheets,
05:19
that should not be included.
05:21
You can use the back button
05:23
to go back to the previous step to select different folders, drawings,
05:27
layouts or import options.
05:30
When you are satisfied, click finish
05:35
the create sheet set wizard closes and the sheet set you just created
05:39
is now open on the sheet list tab of the sheet set manager.
05:44
You can see the sheet names,
05:47
those names are simply shortcuts or pointers
05:50
to the layouts in the drawing files.
05:54
the drawing files themselves have not changed and the
05:56
program has not created any new drawings or folders.
06:00
All it did was create a sheet set data file
06:04
with a list of sheets that link to your drawings.
