Configuring background layer styles

Configure background layers according to their properties or feature styles.

Now it is time to choose how certain styles appear in the layer,

open the border tab and under style select none

And from the color palette select a color you wish to assign to the feature.

Step-by-step Guide

Background layers applied to the GeoPlan in InfoWorks WS Pro provide easy visibility, enhancing model data. Once a background layer in a shapefile format is imported into a model, the layer style can be customized as needed.

  1. From the Model Group, drag BridgeNet and drop it into the workspace to open the GeoPlan.
  2. In the GeoPlan Properties and Themes dialog box, Polygons row, disable Display.
  3. Import Background.shp and apply it to the GeoPlan.

To configure the properties of the background layer:

  1. In the GeoPlan, right-click and select Layer control.

  1. Under GIS Layers, select the Background shapefile.
  2. From the Current Layer group box, click Properties.

  1. In the Layer Properties dialog box, under Display Properties, ensure Override Styles is enabled.

To choose how certain styles appear in the layer:

  1. Expand the drop-down and select Area Style if it is not already selected.
  2. Click the style control preview.

  1. In the Area Style dialog box, open the Border tab.
  2. Under Style, select None.

Because the border has been set to None, the Sample thumbnail is empty.

  1. Open the Fill tab.
  2. Under Pattern, select the solid background.
  3. Under Foreground, select a color.
  4. Click OK.

In the Layer Properties dialog box, the Area Style preview updates accordingly.

  1. Click OK.

  1. In the GIS Layer Control dialog box, click Apply.

In the GeoPlan, the area styles update.

To change background styles according to feature type:

  1. Reopen the Layer Properties dialog box.
  2. In the Theme group box, enable Individual.

  1. Expand the Fields drop-down and select FEATNAME.
  2. Select Set Colours.
  3. Expand a Colour drop-down.
  4. Select a color.

To use a custom color:

  1. With the color palette open, click Custom.

  1. In the Color dialog box, select a color.
  2. Click Add to Custom Colors.
  3. Click OK.
  4. After assigning all colors, click OK.
  5. In the GIS Layer Control dialog box, click Apply.

The GeoPlan updates with the new styles.
