Use Autodesk Point Layout to create a shared User Coordinate System (UCS) made with two known points and their corresponding X, Y, Z values.
Type:
Tutorial
Length:
2 min.
Transcript
00:03
When working in Autodesk Point Layout, the Create New UCS tool makes it easy to create a new shared coordinate system in AutoCAD,
00:11
based on a State Plane Coordinate System (SPCS), or any other system being used in your project.
00:19
With a project open in AutoCAD, right-click anywhere in the model space and select Point Layout > Tools > Create New UCS.
00:30
In the Unit value dialog, select your preferred units.
00:36
Now, find the two points in your project where you know the XYZ values.
00:43
Select your first point.
00:46
In the First Point Coordinate dialog, enter the XYZ values.
00:52
In this example, they are being copied and pasted from an Excel sheet.
00:58
Note that the values must be separated by commas.
01:03
If the points are in northern easting or YXZ, flip the X and the Y values around.
01:11
Click OK.
01:14
Find and select the second point and repeat the process of assigning XYZ coordinates.
01:21
With both points assigned, you can name this new coordinate system.
01:26
In this case, “state plane coordinate system” is used.
01:31
Click OK.
01:34
A notification asks if you want to set the current user coordinate system to the state plane coordinate system you just named.
01:42
Click Yes.
01:44
Your project location changes, and the new coordinate system is set up in your project.
