In InfraWorks, you can import three-dimensional models created with Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Revit,

or Autodesk Civil 3D to make your base mobility simulation model more realistic, such as buildings and other small structures and details.

Begin with a new InfraWorks Mobility Simulation model open.

In Mobility Simulation, the only way to import external design content is to use Autodesk 3ds Max,

so if the model was created in Revit or Civil 3D, it must be imported into 3ds Max first.

In 3ds Max, open the model you want to import in Mobility Simulation.

For this example, a detailed 3D model previously created in Revit and imported into 3ds Max is used.

Zoom in to see the structural building details, including 3D terrain, that you will be adding to your simulation model.

You can import this file into InfraWorks Mobility Simulation as a new shape.

Return to Mobility Simulation, select the Display menu, and then click Content.

In the Content dialog, you can select from the Pedestrians, Vehicles, Structures, Images, and Advanced function tabs.

In your File Explorer, navigate to and select the model file Covid test Building only.3ds.

In the Import 3D Shapes dialog that appears, you can set the Shape Category, Name Prefix, Scale, and XYZ Axis Rotation.

For this example, expand the Shape Category drop-down, and select Site.

Set the Scale to .1, and then click OK.

Be aware that it might take a while to load, and there is no progress bar to indicate the time remaining.

Once the import is complete, you see the file name with a green check mark in the Content dialog.

To insert the imported file, or shape, into the open Mobility Simulation model, right-click the project space and select Display.
