Step-by-step Guide

Tracing tools are useful for problems in the network, such as a reported water quality issue, because you can trace the problem back to its source. Tracing tools can only be used with results.

  1. From the Model Group window, drag the BridgeCon run and drop it into the workspace to open the GeoPlan.

The Model Group window with the tree view expanded to show the Database contents, the BridgeCon run highlighted, and the pointer dragging BridgeCon into the workspace.

  1. In the toolbar, click Trace and select links upstream.

In the Tools toolbar, the Trace and select links upstream command highlighted in red.

  1. In the GeoPlan, select an object, such as a hydrant, in the network.
  2. Observe the entire flow path upstream of the hydrant highlighted in red, leading to its source at the reservoir.
  3. In the GeoPlan, select other hydrants and review how the upstream trace changes.

The GeoPlan with the upstream flow of hydrants selected and traced in red.

  1. To trace water flowing downstream of the selected hydrant, in the toolbar, click Trace and select links downstream.

The Tools toolbar with the Trace and select links downstream command selected.

  1. In the GeoPlan, click any object in the network, such as an object near the reservoir.
  2. Select an object farther from the reservoir.
  3. Review how the trace changes.
