Working with demand area parameters

View and configure the parameters specific to a demand area.

Step-by-step Guide

In InfoWorks WS Pro, demand area analysis provides data that allows users to review the current demand for water and project future potential demand areas.

To view and edit parameters for each demand area:

  1. Open the Demand Area Grid.
  2. Right-click Demand Area 35 and select Properties.

In the InfoWorks WS Pro interface, the Demand Area Grid with the shortcut menu for Demand Area 35 displayed and Properties selected.

  1. In the properties dialog box, open the Parameters tab.

The properties dialog box for Demand Area 35, with the Parameters tab open and highlighted in red.

  1. From the Identification group, review the Demand area ID or the polygon ID, if it applies.
  2. From the Totals group, review the read-only values:
    • Length of Mains is calculated from the total length of mains in the demand area.
    • Total Inflows is calculated for 24 hours from the Live Data, starting from the calibration start time.
    • Total Outflows is the value of the outflow from the Demand Area over 24 hours, starting from the calibration start time.
    • Net Inflow is the value of net inflow into the demand area and is calculated by subtracting total inflows from total outflows.
  1. Review the Management group:
    • The AZNP Node, or Average Zone Night Pressure Node, displays the node with an elevation closest to the average elevation of all nodes in the demand area. Or, if customer points are available, it displays the node with the nearest elevation to the average elevation of all customer points.
    • The AZNP value is calculated from either simulation results or Live Data over the time interval between the Night Flow Minimum start and end times.
    • Unprofiled Demand displays the demand diagram category for the selected demand area. This category profile can be updated or created at the end of the flow balance.
    • Demand Interpolation displays the point in each timestep where demand is calculated and, by default, is set to Middle.
    • Leakage Profile displays the name of the demand diagram category for the selected demand area which represents leakage. Values from this category will be used in the flow balance calculations.
    • Leakage Application displays the method used to distribute leakage consumption across the demand area, with four options:
    • Length of pipe applies leakage to nodes based on the length of pipe associated with each node.
    • Unprofiled demand divides leakage equally among all nodes with the demand category specified in the Unprofiled Demand field.
    • Total connections calculates leakage at nodes based on the number of connections a node has.
    • Calibration Start displays the start date and time for the 24-hour period over which the Demand Area Analysis calculations will be carried out. By default, it is set to the Control Start time.
