Atelier AP: Smooth Transition from CAD to BIM with Autodesk Revit and Luso Cuanza Support

Customer challenge

Atelier AP is a Portuguese Architectural and Design firm engaged in the housing, commercial, industrial, and religious equipment construction fields for 42 years, with a portfolio of over 300 projects. Their clients are mainly religious and social institutions, real estate, private investors, construction and manufacturing companies, commercial firms and investment companies. Faster 3D project presentations, improved productivity, reduced execution time and better quality projects were the main challenges for this evolution project.

Project goals

Atelier AP used to work with AutoCAD but decided to migrate to Autodesk Revit and 3ds Max, to increase production speeds, reduce changing time consumption, and enable faster set-up of each new project with fewer coordination errors, all of these leading to financial savings for the firm.

Solution

Luso Cuanza coordinated with Atelier AP to create a flexible training schedule to accommodate the busy calendar with project deliveries. Luso Cuanza developed a hybrid training environment including both in-person and web-based instructor-led training sessions: “…it was a winning choice because the errors are reduced to a minimum, and the speed of new projects setup and error corrections are very fast. I can tell you with certainty that when designing a complex building, with Revit, we obtain an important economy as we use Revit not just as a coordination or a documentation tool, but also as our main design tool,” says António Pedro Arch. (Owner).

Business outcome

One of the latest projects where Autodesk Revit and 3ds Max have been used is with a multi-family building in Cascais-Portugal.

Conclusion

Atelier AP convinces multi-disciplinary engineering offices to use Revit in order to integrate project information through work-sharing capabilities and BIM 360 project management: “One of the main challenges in implementing the BIM methodology is the change in the team's way of thinking. We are constantly looking for ways to improve the design and documenting process, and Autodesk continues to improve and expand their family of products, allowing us to focus on developing successful projects."
