Success Story
For more than 75 years, Cerulean has been proud to be the market leader of test and measurement solutions to the tobacco, food and packaging industries.
Cerulean manufacture and supply equipment for the Tobacco Industry including quality control instrumentation, test and measuring equipment.
The Cadline team along with Cerulean IT systems and Engineering teams completed a Design Process Review(DPR) across users of Autodesk technology in the UK. The review identified opportunities for improvements in design and engineering data workflows and highlighted a number of manual tasks that could be automated to improve product design cycle times.
The latest Autodesk tools were not being utilised so an ‘Upgrade & Stay Current’ software strategy was defined to allow users to benefit from the latest tools in the future
Standardisation was important so that common tools were used across Cerulean which were already used in sister company Molins therefore creating a standard design and data platform. This would include introducing tools to help manage engineering data that had been successful used in Molins for some years.
Implementing new tools needed to improve Cerulean ROI from Autodesk software so functional specifications for the project were extracted from the DPR recommendations and included in project scope allowing teams to benefit from new tools and workflows by integrating these requirements into user learning paths.
Aligning the Cerulean team to industry best practices and create a foundation that provide future opportunities for engineering digitisation was important. With the working practices available, it was recognised that the automation of manual tasks and improved design workflows would create an efficient environment leading to shorter product times to market.
Cerulean purchased Autodesk Vault Professional, Vault Office, Cadline's AutoConnect tool and a package of professional services that delivered a phased project against a detailed scope of work.
24 days of services were managed via Cadline’s dedicated Project Management team and would initially deliver a CAD upgrade programme bringing Product Design Collections up from 2015 to 2022 release.
Autodesk Vault was implemented to meet the data management needs of the engineering team and that AutoConnect delivered automation of tasks throughout the design process. Vault Office was implemented to allow non-CAD users access to Vault and participation in lifecycle approval processes.
Autodesk Vault Professional, Autodesk Inventor upgrade and iLogic training followed allowing users to get the best from the latest software tools.
Project provision for future years systems updates was included allowing Cerulean to budget ahead and support their ‘Upgrade & Stay Current’ business strategy.
Cerulean have been able to recognise the benefits in the latest Autodesk design and data management tools and by aligning the user training back to the Design Process Review the teams are using the best tools and most efficient workflows through their product design lifecycle.
Downtime throughout the project was minimised and upgrade strategy for the Autodesk tools, Cadline AutoConnect software was delivered successfully though careful planning, great teamwork and technical execution.
Users are benefiting from more efficient design practices and leaning more on software to automate a number of manual tasks such as documentation and BOM creation allowing engineering to spend more time on value-added tasks in the business.
Business standardisation has also been achieved as both Cerulean and sister company Molins are operating on the same design and data management platforms allowing resources and skills to transferred if required.
The Cerulean and Cadline teams have worked closely throughout the project to initially capture the challenges and areas for improvement in the Design Process Review (DPR).
Recommendation from the DPR were used to form the structure of the project and build the business case for investment with the Cerulean management team.
The project has been impactful as it shows a proactive commitment to design, data and digital engineering strategies by utilising the latest Autodesk design and data tools and investing in people skills to get the very best from the software investment.
Cerulean’s leadership team have bought into the longer-term vision and both Cadline are aligned to ensure future projects are supporting Cerulean’s business objectives and vision for the future.
Overall, this project has delivered a proactive approach to continuous improvement and has provided the foundation for further opportunities to digitise, automate and innovate.

Optimising Visual Project Planning with Navisworks
Yara Technology and Projects (YTP) main focus is to develop Yara operations, support Yara's vision to feed the world and deliver roadmaps and projects towards climate-neutral solutions. With so many projects being worldwide, Yara needed to evaluate constructability issues that may arise during projects. Yara use Microsoft Project and Primavera to set up project schedules, material availability and often face the challenge of getting the required tools to remote locations.

Driving Innovation in Design and Engineering
Warren Services is a Norfolk-based family-run engineering and manufacturing business, employing 115 people across two sites. Its capabilities extend from dynamic head water jet® cutting; EDM wire eroding and laser profiling to computer numerical control (CNC) milling and turning, through fabrication and finishing and electrical assembly and testing. Warren Services is proud of its record of providing high-quality manufacturing of components and mechanical/electrical sub-assemblies to agreed schedules, offering turnkey solutions in engineering and design. Autodesk software has long played a key role in its processes and workflows. The company initially took the decision to self-learn and implement the technology itself, using its own internal resource but, over time, ongoing engagement with Autodesk Solution Provider, Cadline, has paid dividends in ensuring Warren Services gains optimum value from its investment.
